Subject: Has anyone had Lasix done?
Anyone? Are you pleased? Pros/cons? And could you post in really big letters. ;D
Subject: Re: Has anyone had Lasix done?
I have glasses but I don't think my optometrist recommended laser surgery...however, my friend who is a pilot had it and I think he sees perfect without glasses now. Plus a lot of businesses are including laser eye surgery in their employee benefits packets now, so why not? But I'm a special case, so I can't find out from experience.

I am saving for it, but I have a friend who has had it done. She had those coke bottle glasses, eyes so bad that she had to put her glasses on at night to go to the bathroom. She had it done about 5 years ago and is still 20/20. She loves the results and would recommend it to anyone. Of course you need to check the doctors thoroughly....

I've known 4 or 5 people that are very happy with it, but I did see this article this morning that casts some negative light on it. http://www.fwweekly.com/issues/2003-02-20/feature.html/page1.html

I had it done just over a year ago. I was also one who couldn't see to do anything without glasses. I even had to buy shampoo/conditioner with different colored tops to tell the difference. My alarm clock (even with a 2" display) fuhgeddaboudit! Now, the only problem I have is at night, but then again, I have always had terrible night vision. If I am really tired, I sometimes get double vision. I am currently 20/25 in both eyes, which is the best I could be corrected to with glasses.
I would say, if you are serious about doing it, see multiple doctors, and check their backgrounds and see if they have had any complaints filed with the AMA. My dr had 2, but he has also done over 10,000 procedures. Make sure the dr uses laser-tracked, rather than manually-tracked, lasers. (Mine used LADARVISION) Don't just go to the one who is cheapest. Mine was close to $4000, but I think it was worth every penny. If you have any other questions, PM or email me. I could go on and on.

I have a good friend at work that had it done a few weeks ago and she has had great results from it. I'm not a candidate for it since I only have correctable vision in one eye but if I was, I would have already had it done.

Really? I have a friend who had it done in only one eye. He still paid close to the same amount (I think about 75%) but they still did it.
Subject: Re: Has anyone had Lasix done?
Thanks guys and gals. I've wanted to have Lasix done since before they used lasers. I know all about blindly stumbling to the bathroom at night. I'm prety good unless someone (husband) leaves his shoes in the middle of the floor. And just once before I die I want to open my eyes in the pool again. ;D

Well, I still stumble to the bathroom during the night, but only because they can't implant cat's eyes ;D You want to hear something funny, though...I still try to take off my glasses at night. After doing so for 24 years, it's hard to stop. ;)

Oh, I'm sure that I could find a doctor who would do it but I'm legally blind in one eye and there is no way to correct it. It's some sort of retina thing. So I'm kinda leary messing with the eye that they can correct. If something was to go wrong, then I would be in trouble.
Subject: Re: Has anyone had Lasix done?
Like a few others here, I wear glasses. I had briefly considered the treatment. If I'm not mistaken, the application of this technology for vision correction is fairly recent, so I chickened-out. I want to learn some more about the process including any mis-treatments.
Subject: Re: Has anyone had Lasix done?
Everyone I know who's had it done swears it's the greatest thing since sliced bread...I have one pretty bad eye (oval shaped) and one not too bad eye...I am in discussions right now with an eye specialist about having it done. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Can't say that I blame you...
Subject: Re: Has anyone had Lasix done?
I used to work for a company that made the first lasers for LASIK eye treatment.. and no, I won't have my eyes done, ever. Even when I could get them done through the company for $300 an eye I refused. I heard enough horror stories working there to completely put me off it.
One of my co-workers, despite my telling him not to, got it done anyways. He's needed to go back for re-treatments because, surprise, the correction didn't remain. He constantly suffers from his eyes drying out.
It's a total vanity thing, so when the doctor screws up, you don't have much recourse against them.
I don't work for the company anymore (and they got bought out by someone) and it's been a few years, but I'm sure whatever draconian paperwork they made me sign prevents me from talking about their awful product.. so I won't be more elaborate.. but basically, unless you feel wearing glasses is the worst thing about your appearance (it's not if you pick decent frames), I'd save your money for something more practical.
of course I'm also biased.. I like glasses, and have never bought into media hype about their appearance.. unless your line of work requires the correction (airplane pilots, work at sea, etc), I wouldn't get it done..
here's my opinion on women in glasses: >grin<

10,000 procedures? If he worked every day of the year that's like 5 procedures a day.. LASIK has only been approved since 1998, and LADARVISION wasn't even around in 1998 (at least not FDA approved).. maybe his clinic has done 10,000 procedures, but I doubt a single doctor has done that many in five years.. sounds a little too high a number to me

Sorry, I misspoke. He has done over 10,000 corrective eye surgeries. I think since the mid-late 80's, before lasers. He was one of the Drs that participated in the first FDA trials in the early 90's and is currently working to develop new technology. I checked deeply into his background and found that he is considered one of the best in the country. I admit, I was nervous, but it was definitely worth it.
