Subject: Music Videos
Would you say that music videos are as popular now as they were in the 80s?
I don't think so. There are more channels-VH1, MTV, and MTV2, but they hardly show videos. They have other programing now-games, interviews, etc. I think that music videos are a bit passe now. Tell me if you disagree with me, and why.

I think in the 80s they were popular beacuse they were so new.
Now, music videos are something an artist must produce as to accompnay their song. I think they're still very popular in that sense.
There may not be as much hype over the release of certain vids, for example like the 'Thriller' video in '83 - but people still heavily comment on them. For example:
"Did you see what Kylie was wearing in 'Can't Get You Outta My Head' - her nipple nearly popped out!"
or
"Wow, Justin's dancing in the 'Like I Love You' vid is just like Michael Jacksons was back in the day."
or
"The 'cowgirl look' must definitly be back if Madonnas sporting it in her video for 'Don't Tell Me'.
I just think they're popular and just as influential now as they were back then. But just a little bit more technologically advanced :)

I disagree. The music video has definitely declined in the past couple years, what with the massive reduction in not only the time that stations are willing to devote to music videos but also the number of different videos they'll play. MTV and VH1 barely play videos anymore and when they do, it's only videos that they've already run into the ground.
I have no idea what Justin's dancing was like in the "Like I Love You," whereas only three years ago I could have told you that the way the Backstreet Boys danced in the "I Want It That Way" video was "so f***ing gay and sh**." (I wasn't all that intelligent three years ago.) My point is, if you go around and ask MTV's target audience if they saw that new video by whoever, the answer will more likely than not be "no."

See now I disgaree with that. People that I know who are among my age group would know these videos and comment on them. Everyone practically has sky/digital/cable around my area and will be flicking through the couple dozen music channels they have.
I agree with you that the music is overplayed, and generally not all that good - but sometimes good music is played. I got digital TV last month - and just for VH1 classic it's worth it. Shame I'm not really gonna get to watch all that much come Sepetember when I move away to Uni! Anyway what I'm trying to say is, that regardless of other music based Tv shows on these channels, the music video will always come first.

Subject: Another good topic to bumb.
Modern music videos were first bought up in the 1960's, but weren't popular until MTV came around.
I think it remained popular in the '80's to the late '90's.
The same time when MTV & VH1 started to become mostly shows & junk. :P
