Subject: Pop Songs which Could Be Used in A Musical!

Written By: Criz on 01/15/03 at 01:04 p.m.

It may sound like a really strange topic at first...but just think about it.

Songs in musicals describe the situations around them, and tell you a story, or describe a situation. So many popular songs do this. I always think that 'The Bluetones - After Hours' should have been put in a comedy musical. Whenever I hear it, I think about posting a thread on here. And now I'm doing it. Whilst listening to that song ;D I could really imagine it being there. If you don't know the song - get a hold of it and you'll see what I mean! (Hopefully! :))

So are there any songs that you can think of?

Hey! Well, what would happen if I show any signs of liking musicals or even thinking about them ??? :) :D ;D Btw, I've never studied interior design or anything like that :P

Musicals, musicals, musicals. Hmmm. I think a lot of Queen songs lend themselves to be thought of as songs in a musical. They're so theatrical to begin with there's no big leap there. Renaissance , Styx, Pink Floyd, and Radiohead follow suit with their Theme albums. But the one I just thought of would be a musical about the 80s titled, The Neon Age. It's a blatant copy of Cabaret's sleaze, but all 80s! Including a soundtrack by A Flock Of Seagulls, Duran Duran, Erasure, Depeche Mode, David Bowie, and Midge Ure!

Isn't that why Ben Elton wrote the musical "We Will Rock You" with the surviving members of Queen?

Of course there's also "Mamma Mia!" with the ABBA tunes.

I can see PSB's "Left To My Own Devices" and "I Normally Wouldn't Do This Kind Of Thing" lending themselves to musicals as well...

I meant the term 'pop' as in popular music, as opposed to classical, not as in 'pure bubble gum, teen pop music' . :)

You could probably just take about any pop song and put it into a musical some how if you really wanted to i am sure you could find a way to do it.
