Subject: The way it used to be around here…
I'm reminding everyone who came here for the first time within the past year that it was a lot different around here…
Check this out!

I've been around here a lot longer than a lot of you guys and I remember the old board!
Subject: Re: The way it used to be around here…
Well, all I can say is, if that's an example of the pre-YABB-1 bulletin board, thank you to ChuckyG for changing over, making this a so much more user-friendly site to come to !
FB :)

Thanks for the link, Don. That was pretty cool. The board has changed alot and for the better, I think. I didn't post much on the old board...mega lurker, though.
Subject: Re: The way it used to be around here…
i must say i think its more organized now.
Subject: Re: The way it used to be around here…
Thanks for the link, CrazyDon! I was a big lurker back then, too.
It used to drive me crazy when I would see a thread titled Re:some subject or another and find out it was a reply to a conversation started weeks or months before. I'd actually have to open up and read the reply before I could get to the link to the original question.
It's much more organized now, and I can choose to read a long thread from the beginning, or just read new replies if I'm familiar with the topic.
The best part though, is the way we've become one big (mostly) happy family since those days. :)

Oh I remember the old board....and how hard it was to get caught up if you missed a few hours (or days). I do like this board better....but I did have some great times at the old board too!! ;D
Subject: Re: The way it used to be around here…
I remember the only member profiles that were available were those of the members who chose to create them. The member profile list was quite short. ;D
Subject: Re: The way it used to be around here…
I don't remember that board. I only used to go the amiright board. Think you could find one of those, too, Crazy Don? :D

It looks like it only shows messages up to June 2001-- and if I remember correctly, I started using the messageboard in August 2001, so that's why my posts aren't on there.. I actually didn't have very many on the old board, because soon after that Chuck made this messageboard. I'm wondering where the messages from after June 2001 are, though.

i was looking at old voting results and saw something by corey stockton with 200+ votes yet no place in overall voting now - is he the guy who sold his parodies and had to have them removed?
Subject: Re: The way it used to be around here…
checked that corey stockton guy is gone from the site now and so is someone called shiteman who had 2 big hits back then which apparently were on napster was the guy who sold his songs one of those guys or someone else altogether. do you remember, chucky
Subject: Re: The way it used to be around here…

I don't think so.. whoever it was, had about 50 or so parodies.. and he never made the voting results..
almost all of the old messages from the original amiright messageboard can be found in the Messageboard Archives link at the top of the messageboard pages.. it's under misheard, here's a direct link..
http://www.inthe00s.com/archive/misheard/index.shtml
one of these days I should try and clean up the presentation of the old archives... I actually wrote software to combine the data from the three different software packages I used to run before YABB, and then wrote another to convert YABB, so I could make those archives as complete as possible.. wish I had done it before last April's crash.. since I lost a few months worth of posts..

I sure remember the old board. I also remember when I was hesitant to sign up and become a "member" when Chucky decided to switch software to create the new board. I must say, I like this one a lot better, especially with the 'pm' feature! Keep up the good work, Chucky! :)

now now.. we all have to start somewhere.. and that's what most messageboards on websites used to look like for years.. it's a very newsgroup/BBS type feel to it.. I used to like it better than this style, they both have their advantages and disadvantages...

I know a lot of people shared that sentiment.. there have been messageboards I've never posted at, but do visit, only because they require registration, and I don't have any reason to trust their site..
it's also one of the reasons I still allow anonymous posting on this site, despite the additional headaches of trying to keep the site well moderated with anonymous posting available.. and one of the reasons I don't require people to create accounts on any of my sites to contribute to them..
I just visited a joke site today that looked promising, but was pushing the whole "sign up for an account" angle a little too heavily for me.. I'm assuming spam would just poor into my inbox even faster if I signed up there..

One that I used to visit a lot has a voting feature for polls...any chance of getting something like that for here?? They don't count as a post when you submit a vote and you can only vote once, so I was quite happy with it.
