Written By: Criz on 01/02/03 at 09:52 a.m.

There must be so many songs which get covered, and covered again and again. Can you name some?

The couple that immediatly come to mind are:

Unchained Melody (Richeous Brothers original is the best)
I Only Want To Be With You I like both Dustys original, The Tourists version and even the Bay City Rollers!)

Yesterday, by The Beatles, covered in excess of 1200 times. My favourite is the original.

My favourite cover versions include:

Mandy Barnett - Don't Forget To Cry (F. and B. Bryant)
The Beach Boys - Why Do Fools Fall In Love (Lymon/Merchant/Santiago)

All I Have To Do Is Dream is a great track, whoever sings it. And I've heard a fair few versions.

Quoting:
Train In Vain - The Clash
Tide Is High - Blondie
Bigmouth Strikes Again - The Smiths
Tainted Love - Soft Cell

How could I forget 'Train In Vain' - my favourite Clash song (along with London Calling) . Are there any other versions apart from Annie Lennox, Third Eye Blind and the Manics that you know of?

Just a couple of questions now. Who else did The Tide is High apart from Atomic Kitten, and who else apart from Placebo covered 'Bigmouth Strikes Again' ? In my opinion, no band can beat The Smiths.

Also Gloria Jones did Tainted Love first :) But both hers and Soft Cells versions are great.

Written by Barrett, Evens and Holt, recorded by John Holt, as far back as 78, but by far the earliest version available, is a 67 version of The Tide Is High by the Paragons.

I've always been kind of drawn to the weird match-ups, like Frank Sinatra covering "Mrs. Robinson", or punk artists covering Cole Porter songs.  http://www.click-smilie.de/sammlung/cool/cool026.gif

Just thought of another:

Be Me Baby - The Ronettes

I can name covers by Travis and the Bay City Rollers of the top of my head, but I know there's more.

There's also the Brian Wilson version from his live concert (as it happened, this was his favourite song in the entire world).

A Song For You by Leon Russell has been covered by a few people like the Carpenters, Donny Hathaway, Temptations, Ray Charles,  and Natalie Cole.

Wild Horses

The two covers of that song that I've heard the most were by Bush and The Sundays
