Subject: whats the coolest/nicest thing youve ever done ?
ok, i started this topic, well because im currently in kentucky, but i live in Michigan. My girlfriend was really bummed that i wouldnt be with her on New Years Eve. So i called my dad, and convinced him to meet me and my brother in Ohio tommorow at 11 am. Lauren doesnt know about this. she called my house in pikeville about an hour ago, but my mom told her i was staying at daniels dorm room in morehead, which i am. And im going to surprise her tommorow.
So what about you guys?

So you brought the beautiful weather with you...wasn't Sunday great?
Anyhoo, the nicest/coolest thing I've ever done: When I used to be a Flight Attendant some guy had a heart attack in flight and another girl and I had to give him CPR until we landed.
That was pretty nice, I think.

Last year My grandmother (dad's mom), who lives in a Chicago suburb turned 80 and the family (my aunts, uncles, cousins etc.) were throwing a big party for her. My dad lives in Washington state and wasn't sure if he could make it due to his financial situation. I was fortunate enough at the time to be in a position to buy him a plane ticket so he wouldn't miss the event. He was able to scrape together enough to get a ticket for his stepdaughter also. My wife & I went also and we had a great time.
I'll never forget before the party we (Mrs. M, my brother & I) went to pick up my dad & stepsister at grandma's to go shopping and he was relieved to get out of the house as some of his siblings were over there also (my dad's the youngest boy of eight children) - he sounded just like a kid as we pulled away from the house & I asked him "how's it goin'" and he replied in a pouty/tattle-y sort of way, "Grandma's tellin' us what to do..." LOL ;D
Oh yeah, and when Mrs. M & I eloped in Charleston SC I made all the arrangements - bed & breakfast reservations, chapel reservation, picking up the marriage license etc. I guess that was pretty cool.

2003 will be the third year I am a team captain for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in my town. Pretty much, you form a team of 8 to 15 people and everyone collects money (donations, fundraisers, what not) and then on the designated weekend the team goes to the site of the event (ours is at a local high school) and sets up camp. And for 24 hours each team has at least one team member walking around the track at all times. They have a nice lunch for cancer survivors and then the survivors open up the event by doing the first lap around the track and when it gets dark they have a luminary service for cancer survivors and for those who didn't survive. My team is supposed to be a work team but only two other co-workers signed up, so I convinced my friends to join. The whole thing breaks my heart but gives me hope that one day we might beat cancer.

Every year, I participate in the Walk for Hunger. It's a fundraiser where you get other people to sponsor you in a 20-mile walk through five cities. People can give you a lump-sum donation or pay you X per mile that you walk. The money is used for food pantries and homeless shelters throughout the state. The last couple of years there were almost 400,000 people walking, from children up to senior citizens, and close to $3 million dollars raised.
As a teen working at the local shopping mall, one day there were two ladies wandering around shouting. As I got closer, I noticed they were blind, and they were shouting for people nearby to please tell them if they were near the entrance and/or bus stop. They were not, they were at the opposite end of the mall. I went up and offered to give them directions to get back to where they wanted to be. They were very happy to "find somebody with manners around here". It was near Christmas, and the place was crowded. They had been given bad directions by several different people, and they could hear that there were people near them, but no one would answer their questions.
I took them to the entrance and waited with them till their bus came. They thanked me for my help, but said it was their last trip to a suburban mall. They were actually treated better in the chaos of the "big city" and I couldn't help but agree with them.

Nicest thing?
I didn't strangle my geriatric cat, or turn her into a greasy furcake on the wall, after waking me up at 1:41 this morning. Impulse control is an issue when I'm untimely ripped outta bed to give this ewok a drink.
Granted, everyone else so far is demonstrably nicer than me, but don't I get some points for not doing something bad? http://www.clicksmilie.de/sammlung/cool/cool029.gif

I live in the LA area, and one of our friends is an actor (out here they are a dime a dozen). He went through a dry spell and no major commercial work and has a family with 5 kids.
My husband and I went to the grocery store, and bought them a ton of food, put it on their door step Christmas Eve, rang the doorbell, and ran.
We knew it was gonna be a sparse Christmas for their kids, so we wanted to help out. Although they tried to guess who it was, we always insisted that it wasn't us. Even tho it was groceries and not toys, they all got what they loved, Pringles, Cheetos, Doritos, Red Vines, you get my drift.......

The nicest thing I've done for someone happened in the summer of 2001. I chopped off my hair (which was waist-length) and donated it to this place that makes wigs for children who have cancer or have alopecia. I would do it again too, but I've ruined my hair by dyeing it so much. :-/

I dunno...I guess that I try to be the best person I can be...whether it is friend, lover, mother, etc...I firmly believe that I was put here for some reason-and although I may not know what my purpose is yet-the journey has been fun, educational, painful, but unforgettable.
Oh, and I've been Room Mother for 3 out of the last 4 years my Jordanne has been in school-and I'm the Kool-Aid Mom on my block. Patience has it's virtues, n'est pas? ::) ;) :D
Or perhaps I'm just a masochist. ;D
Subject: Re: whats the coolest/nicest thing youve ever done
I read the thread title as "coolest/incest thing youve ever done"
Subject: Re: whats the coolest/nicest thing youve ever done
::) I personally haven't done any incest things, cool or not...
As for NICE things... Me and my boyfriend have VERY similar tastes, so every present I give to him and don't keep for myself is a nice gesture :)
(Incidentally, since I found out actor Alan Cumming was bisexual I've been trying to persuade my Dan to fancy him so that we can share him ;) )

Subject: Re: whats the coolest/nicest thing youve ever done
Coke and Pepsi taste exactly the same- they're just carbonated water, colour and sugar with a sprinkling of E-numbers.
Subject: Re: whats the coolest/nicest thing youve ever done
Nicest thing I've done? Hmm... probably putting up with my little sister. Any normal person would have shot her by now. ;D
Subject: Re: whats the coolest/nicest thing youve ever done
I don't know. Is it all the time and money I've spent being a good PTA mom for all my son's classrooms? Is it the fact that I've been faithful for 13 years to one man? Is it the little things I do for my friends that they take for granted (like always babysitting, never getting paid, and loving their kids)? Is it all the things that my friends don't take for granted?
Maybe it's the fact that I'd never lie to my hubby or friends just to make them feel better. Honesty is a virtue, it's said.
I'd like to think that the best thing I've ever done, the coolest, most awesome, most special...is simply being the best mother I could, raising the best child I could, loving the man who deserved it, and dying knowing I fulfilled these, the most important of dreams. :)

Coke tastes awesome. :D Much better than Pepsi in my opinion.
I describe Coca-Cola as "the nectar of the Gods". 8) :)

I'm afraid I must agree (with HS that is)
I would defy any attempt to hoodwink me in a taste test - thay are like chalk and cheese.
I dunno about your "Nectar of the Gods" statement HS, why do you under-sell the drink so ? :P ;)
COKE is it !

Subject: Re: whats the coolest/nicest thing youve ever done
Ok.
The coolest/nicest thing I've ever done was donating to the needy and helping out where and when I can, especially during the Holidays. :)
Subject: Re: whats the coolest/nicest thing youve ever done
The Niceest thing I have done this week happened today, I was at the Dollar store , and the Lady ahead of me forgot her checkbook, and they don't take check cards, so she came up two quarters short. I gave her two quarters so she could pay for her purchase.
