Subject: Favorite Holiday Specail

Written By: Race_Bannon on 10/31/02 at 01:44 p.m.

What is your favorite holiday special?  Of course the Peanuts gang has been worked to death a few subjects ago and I know there is some big fans out there, I made my points clear.

My Favorite was Santa Claus is Coming to Town featureing the "Burgermeister Meisterburger" and the Bad Wizard named Winter who has his cold heart melted when he recieves a toy.
Action, adventure, romance, suspense, had it all!

My two favorite Christmas ones are Nester the Long-eared Donkey and the cartoon that has the Mr. Heat Miser song in it (name escapes me right now).

"A Year Without A Santa Claus", followed by "The Stingiest Man in Town", "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town", and "Frosty The Snowman". Sorry, not a big "Rudolph" fan, even though I liked Yukon Cornelius and Burl Ives as the snowman.

My favorite Christmas special is called "The Life and Times of Santa Claus" (or something very similar). There are two versions, one is stop-motion animation similar to Rudolph and many others.

The other verson is animated in a Japanese-Anime style, and runs quite a bit longer.  The songs in this one are decidedly Celtic.  It tells the story of how one of the "Fair Folk" adopted and raised a human infant, against the laws of her people.  She called him Kris, and as he grew, he learned the same love for humans that she had.  Since he was mortal, he aged, but on the day of what would have been his mortal death he was given the gift of immortality.

My favorite Haunnakah special (and there aren't many out there to begin with) is the Rugrats one. It explained the holiday to me better than anyone else could.

I don't know if it qualifies as a special but its on every year; "The Christmas Story". ("You'll shoot your eye out kid".) Also loved "Rudolph" (Herbie: "I'm going to be a dentist." Elf Master: "A WHAAT !? A DENTIST!? Herbie, shame on you.") My brother and I used to put on a little play of that part of the program every year. And my most recent, and probably the funniest; "Mr. Hanky The Christmas Poo" from South Park. (Mr. Mackey: "Kyle, you've got to give up this fascination with mookie stinks...mmmmkay?" ;D

Well, I'd have to stick with old reliable;
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
I've been watching that one since I was very young and I still watch it EVERY year with my children.

Add another one to that count!  That's my favorite too!  I bought the movie long before I was married OR had kids.  Remember back when they'd show all those great cartoons around Christmas time?  I miss that.   :-ages since those cartoons were on network television.  I remember being so excited when they were on when I was a kid. (Usually at 8:00 and 8:30 up here  ;))  I still have vivid memories of that spinny-multicolored "thing" that said Special.  (I haven't seen those in ages either!)  Sure, you can still find the movies, on the "25 days of Christmas" on the family channel (I think?) each year, but whatever happened to it being a big thing on an everyday channel?   :-old classic movies too, like Miracle on 34th Street and It's a Wonderful Life.  I also enjoyed Jingle All The Way and The Santa Clause (we're planning to go see the second one next week, after the kids' holiday pictures.  ;D)  and of course there's A Christmas Story..though sadly I confess I never saw that entire movie until a few years back...  :-/

Gosh....for as little TV as I watch normally, it sure does appear that I go hog wild in front of the TV over the holidays!  LOL!

I know, that drives me crazy.   >:( Not everyone has cable tv, or a sattelite dish.  And just because they are available on video or DVD doesn't mean everyone has a player. :-/

A couple of films they used to show every year at Christmas time, that I also like is The Greatest Story Ever Told and The Ten Commandments.  These last two years now, they've been on cable tv, but on a channel I don't get. :P

51 sleeps until Christmas!!
