Subject: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
I was playing Pac-Man Plus on MAME tonight, when I realized something and took a screenshot of it:

Now, if the greatest icon of the 80's, not to mention the object of our worship (Those of us in the Church of Pac-Man that is) chooses Coke, who are we to argue?
Pac-Man says "Coke Is It!"

Yeah! Woo-hoo! :D :D :D

Sorry IG...TV9 has you here!!
Coke is pop culture, baby!!!
;D ;D

That's probably why I was never any good at Pac-Man, the most overrated waste of time in video game history. In the meantime, I'll be drinking the cola people prefer. This debate is not over.

Oh, now I KNOW you didn't just diss the almighty Pac-Man! How DARE you! May pellets rain from the sky on your house! May monsters chase you around every corner! May your inferior Pepsi taste like flattened recarbonated Coke! Oh, wait, it already does...
Subject: Re: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
That's probably why MW disowned you as her personal slave. I feel the same way about your fruitless tirade on Pepsi as you do for Pac Punk. May the Pac Man that drinks your Coke also eat your insides hollow. Oh, wait, the Coke has already done that. ;D

That is because Pepsico runs them. So when you eat at KFC, you are supporting pepsi. I don't understand why everyone on this board loves Coke so much (it's not like the cocaine is still in it).

Oh, now we're trying to make this PERSONAL? I'm shocked. Leave it to you Pepsi drinkers, whose brains have been addled by the excess citrus and noxious flavor of the Pepsi, to stoop to such levels. I'll have you know I was NOT disowned by MW, my Master has just disappeared. She'll be back for me! *sniff*
Pac Punk? I'll assume here you're referring to the trashing you're trying to give the almighty one rather than insulting him again.
You know, if you lay off the Pepsi now, it's not too late. You CAN make a full recovery! ;D

I'm a huge Pac Man fan, so I hate to tell you this, but that's not the original Pac Man, it's a hack.. cherry is the first fruit..
Subject: Re: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
Well, he did type this: "Pac-Man Plus on MAME". That makes a distinction, as opposed to what he could have typed: "Pac-Man", "The Classic Pac-Man", "The Original Pac-Man", "The One & Only...", etc. ;D ;)
Subject: Re: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
Definitely a hack. I've also seen Strawberry used as the first fruit on some other versions of Pacman/Snapper... yes, as well as the second. Played it for ever... including today, no less.

Sooo..... Coke was trying to dupe the public by inserting their product in a hacked version of an ancient video game? If this thread makes it to page 3, I'm going to bring out the Fanta files. ;)
Subject: Re: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
Yes indeedy, not a hack my friends, but the one TRUE Pac-Man, returned to us via Midway in 1982. I've had the ROMS for a long, long time, but found a website concerning Pac-Man through the years yesterday, which reminded me of the game, which is why I was playing it. Here's what the site had to say about it:
Exciting New Pac-man Plus
Arcade release
Developer/US publisher: Midway
This was a half-assed "upgrade" to Pac-man offered to arcades by Midway as they waited for Super Pac-man to come in. Essentially the same as Pac-man but with a different color scheme, faster monsters, different fruit, stupid random effects like the maze dissapearing when Pac eats the fruit, and power pellets that didn't work as well as they did before.
The game was a big mistake. It wasn't really needed, because people were still playing Ms. Pac, and the gameplay was a step down in just about all respects. Didn't do too well. Most arcade owners restored their "upgrades" back to the original Pac machine pretty quickly.
This is one of the few classic arcade games that still is not available on the net in emulated form. Apparently, no one finds this game worth emulating, even for the sake of nostalgia.
The only thing I know of that comes close to experiencing this game at home is via a hidden mode in Jess's Pac-mon game. =)
http://www.downmainelimited.com/images/pacplus.gif
Now these guys obviously did NOT like the game, but then again, they also didn't do their homework enough to know that the game has been emulated in MAME for YEARS. So, we can't give their opinion much weight. ;D

No. Not a hacked version. As ChuckyG explained above, it was a legitimate upgrade to the original, released shortly after the original.

Regardless, the hack chose Coke over Pepsi, right?
Another plus for Coke: the giant Coke bottle behind the stands at Pac Bell Park. That thing is money.

Good point, so even if it WAS hacked, which it's NOT, that just goes to show that even HACKERS prefer COKE!
Subject: Re: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
The only hacks here are Coke and Pac-Man. TV9, you can shove Coke and Pac-Man in my face if you want. But even if I did like Coke, I still diapprove of the subliminal advertising that the Big Red Pushers are known for. Pepsi doesn't need to brainwash it's drinkers with such dirty tactics. And if they did, I would still purchase their product just to prevent the Coke monopoly, the only reason they even sell. And Venice Beach had to ban Pepsi products at Coke's bidding. That just shows you the mentality of Venice Beach government. ::) ;)

OK, I'm gonna stop posting in this thread now. This seems to be being taken a little bit seriously now, and it really just started out as a fun thread when I saw that Coke can in the game. Now, I'm gonna sit here with my can of Coke all catatonic-like about subliminal messages....

Subject: Re: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
Ok, ok. It's been brought to my attention that perhaps this topic is beginning to offend a certain Pepsi drinker. Well...
He who is without sin, cast the first stone....
Or something like that. :P
Anyway, I'm sorry. This topic was a lighthearted one. Pepsi drinker got all defensive and felt the absolute duty to jump-in and debate, defending it's precious soda-pop-less AND also insulting the other Soda AND insulting PAC-MAN.
For shame.
Things got a little too hot with an overwhelming majority standing by their Soda-Pop Ruler - Coca-Cola and their Pop-Culture Icon Pac-Man.
Have we not the right to defend our loves just as fervently as you do without getting all personal? ? ?
I say Yes!
Subject: Re: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
For the record, it's all just sugar, corn syrup and fizz water. It's not worth getting upset over.
Can we start arguing about Fresca vs. Tab now?

Speaking of a disguised drink... anyone ever hear of Royal Crown Premium Draft Cola (Premium DraftCola?) Here's a review of it from BevNet:
A very strange tasting cola. This beverage tastes like root beer mixed with cola or, according to others, like a chocolate cola. Either way, Royal Crown Premium Draft cola has a very thick and original taste to it. We here at the BevNET! enjoyed this beverage. A very high quality beverage! It is definitely worth trying if you are sick of the traditional colas that are available.

I've tasted all three (Fanta, Fresca and Tab), and I find I actually like Fanta, though it's not my first choice for soda.
Can't stand Fresca. My parents bought it back when I was a pre-teen, and they were trying to convince me there were other flavors out there besides cola. It didn't work. I actually told them it gave me stomach cramps, and they must have believed me, they quit buying it.
Tab? I can take it or leave it. It's not the nastiest-tasting soda I've ever tasted, but I wouldn't go out and buy it on purpose either. Only if I'm out in the middle of the desert, at the last rest stop for umpty-whatever miles, and all the other flavors are sold out. ;)

Subject: Re: An End To The Coke Vs. Pepsi Debate!
For whatever it's worth... I was talking to the Coke driver the other day and they've switched from Minute Maid to Fanta for the orange/grape flavors. It seems there's some customer confusion... Minute Maid sells twelve ounce juice as well as carbonated drinks. Fanta just sells the carbonated beverage.
