Subject: Is it just me....?

You know, I've been feeling a little down late this morning and early this afternoon -- I am sitting here doing taxes again (very boring) and I find that I have to keep the board up (I keep lurking) and that checking it from time to time does wonders for my mood. :)
It is like there is this sense of warmth eminating from it. This is decidedly weird, but I feel closer to some of the people on this board and feel more warmth and support from them than I do my "flesh and blood" friends that I am in contact with in "real life." Does anyone else here feel that way? Is it just me? ???

It's not just you Z...I always find that when I'm away from the puter I can't wait to get on here and see what's up on here! I sometimes stand at the box office at work before and/or after the show and look at the puter and want to jump on here...but I know I'd drive the girls crazy who are doing all the night's receipts...
This is always my first stop after my email when I get on the puter ;D

I definitely feel that way, Zella. I'm not even that close with my pa and sis, and I actually get along better with my dad's Georgia siblings. But I still feel closer to total strangers than people I know. Maybe it's because I don't have to live with them. ;)

I feel like that. There are a couple of people on here that I consider close friends and who are always there for me, unlike some of the people in my real life.

I'm the same way, Zella. Ever since my family moved here I haven't made many friends. A lot of that probably has to do with the fact that I work from my house and don't get out much! You should see me...I can't wait until the kids take their nap each day so that I can come here and see what all my friends have posted! You guys are the coolest bunch!!! ;D ;)

Personally, I've kept a distance from everyone on any messageboard. It's fun, but I don't want the Internet to be a substitute for actual social interaction.

I've made friends with several people on this messageboard, but I would much rather go out and do things with friends that I really "know." This board is a great place, and I like the people on here, but I think my family and friends are much more important. That's just my opinion.

Sometimes I think, this is crazy, feeling close to names on a messageboard, but I do feel like I've gotten to know some of y'all and thats not crazy, thats real. Not that you're substitutes for my real life family and friends just different; but with all the hatred and misunderstanding in the world today, I'll take any kind of friendship and support I can get, anywhere I can get it, so I'd have to say no Zella, its not just you. :D

I feel the same way, Zella. There is a certain "family-like" atmosphere here. I have met some special people here that are closer to me than some of my "real-life" friends.

The Internet, for me, is a way of kicking out my frustrations at everything else in the world. So, it follows that I come to this board looking for a bit of a break from what my grandad would call "life". I am lucky enough, in a sense, to have "friends" that I speak to from all over the world, from London to New Zealand, and although there's the worry for me about expressing myself wrongly (since words without YaBBC tags seem to have no meaning). Are they real friends? Who's to tell. Everyone's got the ability to express themselves as they wish in person. I'm able to talk to hundreds of people, I feel, on different levels judging by the capacity in which I know them (I guess you could say, thankfully, that I've stayed real close to my preciousest "real life" friends). And isn't that worth more than ever nowadays?
Note: I guess I should define real life. These, I feel, are the friends whose voices I've heard. Separate from those (including these on the messageboard, as realistic as it seems at times) who I haven't heard the voices of. Of course, I'm mostly referring to the self-pic thread and the profile-esque questions that people ask from time to time.

Then it would depend on who I am talking to and how we are talking, by phone or by exchanging messages. I guess that would make me a real/cyber friend!!

I think I have a good balance of 'real' and 'cyber' friends.The first thing I do in the morning is log on here
and I lurk most of my working day.I feel I've made some great friends here and it's certainly one of the warmest and most fun boards I've been on,hence me staying with it.The board isn't my life though and neither should it be,but as Bobo said it's a great way of meeting people from all over the world.Tarzan boy is right too it's a damn sight quicker than writting to penpals which it's possible some of us might of been without computers!

I just like it here - I have fun - it gives me an outlet - maybe in the way that others have said - an escape from reality.
Having said that some of it seems pretty real - There is a great group of people here.
I too am not that close to my (original) family, so maybe that's why it's a little more special......

I only have a couple of real close "flesh and blood" friends. I am alot closer to them, but I feel very close to some of the people here. We are like real friends in that there are some little disagreements but for the most part we get along. We don't always agree, but the world would be pretty darn boring if we did. If one of us is down, everyone jumps in to help them to feel better or just talk to them. I know that a lot of people comforted me when my grandfather died.

I must've missed this the first time around. I have very few close friends and family members, and I feel that I have a very close friendship with some of the members here. This has always been a happy place to be for me, and I hope it continues to be. :)

I just love this board! Everyone on here is just so nice & kind. This is the first place I go to when I get on my computer cause I want to know what people are writing about! I especially love the scandalous threads! ;D And I love pm'ing my special penguin buddies! ^

i contantly try to participate in other message boards, but i rarely stick around for more than a week. why? because the people usually have no personality! everyone thinks the same way, and if they don't, it's something trivial. ("green is a cool color." "green sucks." "you suck!" "no, you suck!" etc...) even though i've not been around here for too long, i have to say that i spend a little more time here every day. i really like it here; you seem to be stuck with me. :) this board is starting to appear in my dreams even!
