Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
That is a cool link, I say Coke myself. ;D
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
Now that is a debate. It looks like Pop is winning, but by a small margin.
I call it Pop, myself. :D
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
I usually say pop; here are the stats from:
West Virginia: Pop 316, soda 64, Coke 81, other 11, total 472; percent responded from WV: 0.60%
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
The darned link threw me off the net, but not before I found out that most os the peeps in my area say pop, as I do. However, I will say 'coke' as a catchall for 'cola'. What does that make me? ::) Confused? I already know that! ;)
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
Very interesting debate, Screwball. I usually call it "soda" myself, and sure enough most people from my area (who voted) call it that, too. :)
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
I never could imagine the word "Coke" to refer to all types of soft drinks (Sorry, TX).
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
POP!
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
Most people in my home state (Oregon) call it pop; I always say soda. But soda leads pop by a wide margin in California, (where my relatives are from).
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
I say Soda-Pop
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
We said "Pop" in Ohio --after moving to California I learned to say "Soda" in self defense... ::)
Now, is it a couch, sofa or davenport?
Freeway, highway or expressway?
And just what is that strip of grass between the street and the sidewalk called.....?
;D ;D ;D
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate

It's a couch to me… and to me Davenport is one of the Quad Cities… (because my grandmother lived in Iowa about 30 miles away from Davenport)
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
Let's see, I call them:
1.pop
2.couch
3.highway
4.that strip of grass between the street and the sidewalk ::)
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
1. Pop unless it's Club Soda which is just called Soda...
2. Couch
3. Highway's have traffic lights. Freeway's don't which is why it's called a freeway ;)
4. The strip of grass between the road and the sidewalk is called a Boulevard here :)
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
1. Used to call it Pop, living in the south now, so I call it soda (just to fit in)
2. Use 'couch' and 'sofa' interchangably
3. Autobahn
4. I don't see that around much, so I'd have to say upper class strip. The thin strips I do see, though, I call weeds.
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
OK, I'll use this format....

1. coke; soda is a close 2nd for me esp. if I'm thinking of all kinds of drinks (like for a party). But I habitually order by "coke".
2. sofa preferred; couch somewhat close 2nd.
3. highway; there is no other word ;)
4. I never knew there was any word for a suburbia strip of lawn between sidewalk and road. :-beltway or loop? (I'm sure there's another term but can't remember.)

Umm, isn't a median strip the big grassy (or otherwise non-road pavement) strip between 2 sides (usually opposite directions) of a ....a....big road? (I'm loathe to say "highway" now)?
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
1) coke
2) couch
3) highway
4) never heard a name for it before this thread

I've heard beltline, but I call it a loop. It's a loop around the city.

Fetty Fetty Fetty! What kind of proper Ohioan are you anyway? ::)
Should be:
1. pop
2. davenport
3. expressway
4. devil strip or treelawn....
Now as a proper Californian, I have learned to substitute:
1. soda
2. couch, sofa or love seat
3. freeway
4. parkway
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
1. Soft Drink
2. Couch
3. Highway
4. Median Strip or Traffic Island
Subject: Re: Finally something Important to debate
1. pop for everything else, Coke for all colas 2. couch 3. road 4. median
