Subject: Joke - There is a moral to the story

Written By: FussBudgetVanPelt on 09/06/02 at 06:46 a.m.

Read to the end, people....

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well. The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway; it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbours to come over and help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began to shovel dirt into the well.  At first, the donkey realised what was happening and cried horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well, and was astonished at what he saw. With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbours continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!

Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of our troubles is a stepping stone. We can get out of the deepest wells just by not stopping, never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up!

Remember the five simple rules to be happy :

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

Enough of that. The donkey later came back and kicked the crap out of the farmer that tried to bury him.

Moral: When you try to cover your a*s, it always comes back to get you.

The donkey should then throw the farmer in another well!

***singing*** The farmer in the well, the farmer in the well, hi-ho-the-derry-oh-the farmer in the well!

That may have only been there to help set up the punchline, but those are very true words. A life lesson in one short paragraph.

...or as I like to say:  when life hands you dirt, make mud pies!  (Sort of like the lemonade thing...)

Just don't sling the dirt...you may end up just as filthy as the one you were slinging it at! ;)

I don't know, this part just seems wrong to me, and not inclined to make me a happier person:

Why on earth would I want to give more, and expect less?  That means I'm putting out more effort, but not expecting at least an equal return.  As it is, I don't expect more than I give, why would I give more for less?

I'm so confused now, I'm gonna go lie down...
