Subject: Your first video game
After playing PONG on the games site hear, and remembering it when it was all new and shiny and exciting (and sold out at $79.00 a pop at the local Targets)....
What made these old games so cool? I mean, it is deadingly boring. Nothing happens. The graphics are... well, primitive. The sound is the next best thing to water torture.
My first game... at least the first one I remember, was a text version of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy on my old Commodore 128.
Were we really that entertainment starved and easily impressed back then? ???

I had Digger T Rock on an old Nintendo
Very frustrating as there was no capacity to save the game...

My First Video Game expierience was "Astrosmash" for the Intellivision, astoroids would fall from the sky and you had to shoot at the them. I think I was three when we got it, but I as I got older I started to play other intellivision games, that is until Nintendo came along.

I don't believe it's a case of being easily impressed, and besides, it's easy enough to look through rose-tinted spectacles at the past. Pong was the biggest thing of it's time. Actually watching the physics (and they were alright physics, based on the impact of the ball and the centralization of the bat), it is interesting to find fault with the programming of such a simple game itself.
As for my first computer/video game, we borrowed a computer a while back (when I was two) and two hundred 5.5" computer discs (some famous, some brilliant, some less famous).
In fact, some of the games on Chuck's websites (DugDug, Breakout, Q-Bert, Space Invaders, Defender, Pipe Dream, Frogger in the 80s) ring bells as I have copies of them. Same deal with Space Invaders, Asteroids, Breakout and Space Invaders from the 70s. Some of these were great back then, and even better for retro value now.

It was an atari game called Q-Bert

In the 1970's I had one of those that could only play three games: pong, hockey, and I believe handball, the latter being a solo game. It was very primitive and I got it for Christmas.
Subject: Re: Your first video game
Mine was "Super Mario Bros." on Super Nintendo.
Subject: Re: Your first video game
My mother had an Atari for awhile back in the early 80s, and I got quite addicted to "Adventure." That was the only one I ever played regularly. Anything that took speed and coodination I was lousy at.... :-/

Pong. After that we got an Atari 2600 with Pac Man and Moon Patrol.

Well my first stand alone game was Pong
my first home game was Pong
my second stand alone Space Invaders
second home game was KC Munchkin
this was on Magnivox Odessy (sorry about the spelling)
and for those that dont know this was Magnivox's answer to the Atari 2600 and KC Munchkin was quickly changed due to a lawsuit because of its simularity to Pac-Man

Am I the only one who didn't have a video game? :o They still bore me
Subject: Re: Your first video game
Our first home video game was Atari's Super Pong, circa 1977. We bought a 2600 (at that time I think we referred to them as the Atari VCS) in 1980 and were stuck playing "Combat" for about 2 months until we bought "Space Invaders."
I think the first arcade game I ever played was Pac-Man.

Super Mario World for the Super Nintendo - Excellent game. I felt sorry when I completed it.
Subject: Re: Your first video game
On my brother's 10th birthday, he was given a Sony Playstation and a game called Moto Racer 2. The first game I've been given as a present was Bust-A-Move 2 in Christmas 1998. I think Bust-A-Move 3 is better, though.

Actually, Pong WAS my first video game. It came with my Texas Instrument computer, which had no monitor _ we used an old B&W tv, and used a cassette recorder to store data. Cutting edge at the time, but BORRRING ;) And then there was Pacman...

LOL Tripsmom! you wont be once your triplets are old enough to start clamoring for one!
For me it was at a Godfather's Pizza the first time I ever saw and played Space Invaders (and I sucked untill I learned the trick with having the one in the top row seperated from his buddies but killing him last!)

Actually, there are a number of socio-political overtones to video...
JUST KIDDING. ;)
My favorit new ones are the two new Zelda games - well, one is a bit old, but still, great graphics, and fun. Super Mario and the new Donkey Kong are ok too.
Subject: Re: Your first video game
Although, I've gotten my hands on many Atari and Nintendo games, the first game that I officially owned was Super Mario world for the Super Nintendo.

How come nobody's mentioned Double Dragon for the original Nintendo?
