Subject: Favorite Comedy Artists
What comedy artists do you like that make you LOL? I'm into Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Robin Williams, and Some of Bob and Tom's stuff. I also dig the wacky video shows and old Carol Burnett. Who do you laugh with? :D

I like Adam Sandler and Ben Stiller.
Will Farrell is the only new SNL cast member that I like. I absoultely loved it when Gilda Radner, Chevy Chase and Bill Murray were the stars.
Oh, I just started watching "Whose Line is it Anyway" and I really love the comedians on that show (I haven't learned their names yet).
Subject: Re: Favorite Comedy Artists
I like George Carlin. I like a lot of comics and when I had HBO, I tried to catch some of them when they did their thing.
I also like Bill Cosby. When I was growing up in the 1960's, I listened to his album "Why Is There Air?" Absolutely hilarious.
I also like song parodies and the two best at it today are "Weird Al" Yankovic and Cledus T. Judd. If you never heard of Cledus, he usually sticks to country material but has spoofed a rock song every once in a while (e. g. Kid Rock's "Cowboy," which he turned into "Plowboy"). If you've never heard Cledus, check out his latest, a take on Faith Hill's "Breathe" called "Breath." Hilarious.

Is he the comedic alter-ego of a guy named Rich Hall?
Anyway, in addition to others already posted, I'll say that Spike Milligan is my all-time favourite, along with the rest of the Goons.
Also maybe the physical humour of Monty Python and Marty Feldman.
The verbal cleverness of Steven Wright, and Jasper Carrot.
The near-insanity of Ross Noble ;D
The everyday non-sequiturs of thought from Dave Hughes, and Boothby Graffoe.

Eddie Izzard cracks me up.

No, he's sorta chunky, and was originally a Georgia hairdresser named Barry Poole. He's the country equivalent of "Weird Al" Yankovic but has been known to spoof a rock song or two.

Yeah, that's him - thanks!
While we're talking about nutters - the two guys who did the stage show "Arctic Boosh". Weird musings about suckling the audience like piglets...
Subject: Re: Favorite Comedy Artists
It has to be Denis Leary
His chain-smoking, foul mouthed Irish humor just knocks me over!!! ;D ;D ;D
plus he is not hard on the eyes!!
Subject: Re: Favorite Comedy Artists
No B.S. and ALWAYS funny.....
George Carlin!
Subject: Re: Favorite Comedy Artists
I don't think he has been mentioned yet, but he deserves my vote. My favourite has to be John Cleese!! He is sooo funny in Monty Python, but especially in Fawlty Towers. My favourite comedy ever - I can watch those shows every day and never get bored :)

You have to dust off the ALBUMS of most of my faves. This is strictly based on stand-up or comedy acts, not movies. And in no particular order:
Oldies: (70s & earlier)
Steve Martin
Jonathon Winters
Richard Pryor
Bob Newhart
Bill Cosby
Vaughn Meader
George Carlin
Carl Reiner & Mel Brooks
more recent:(80s)
Eddie Murphy
Sam Kinnison
Steven Wright
Robin Williams
And even MORE recent:
Denis Leary
Adam Sandler
Dane Cook
Lewis Black
And old school SNL, Carol Burnett Show, Monty Python, Benny Hill, SCTV are all great ensembles.

Ok, I'm sorry this is a little late. I've been dealing with computer troubles and I haven't been online for almost two weeks. Desperately trying to catch up here....
I have always liked George Carlin and Bill Cosby. For newer comedians, I also like Dennis Leary and David Attel (has anyone else seen his show, "Insomniac"?).
One real old-timer I've always liked, and no one has mentioned yet, is Don Rickles.
I also like a bunch from "across the pond",--Benny Hill, John Cleese, and many, many more.
Subject: Re: Favorite Comedy Artists
There are so many to choose from!
For "clean" comedy, you can't go wrong with Sinbad or Cosby!
George Carlin never fails to make me laugh...he and I think an awful lot alike...
And Denis Leary, rude as he is, makes my chortle, too. (And you are totally right, SS, he is very easy on the eyes!)
Robin Williams is classic for improv..
And I never miss "Whose Line"- I laugh until I cry with that one...even my daughter knows when it's on...she can hear Mommy laughing...as can, say, Cleveland...I have been catching up with the UK original on Comedy Central, and they feature many of the comedians that are on the US version.
But I laugh the hardest with the Monty Python Gang...luckily my library has many taped episodes....and they are just as fresh and funny as they were back in the 70's! The larch! ;D
Subject: Re: Favorite Comedy Artists
In order...
Robin Williams
George Carlin
Steven Wright
and...
Andrew 'Dice' Clay *ducks*
Sorry, the guy just makes my sides hurt laughing so hard....
Subject: Re: Favorite Comedy Artists
Now, where to start...
For sharpness of wit, Ben Elton, Rowan Atkinson (especially when reciting the words of Richard Curtis), Jasper Carrott
Billy Connolly, John Cleese (and the rest of the Python gang)
Bob Newhart and Bill Cosby still make me laugh, even though I must have played the tapes 100 times
But most of all, I love humourous songs, so pride of place has to go to:
Tom Lehrer
Jake Thackray
Ivor Biggun
Kevin Bloody Wilson
Denis Leary (for the A$$hole song)
(and Jasper Carrott/Billy Connolly, too)
