Subject: Amusing Poetry.

Written By: Simple_Simon on 08/08/02 at 08:57 a.m.

I will begin but telling one from a book I got when I was eight years old:

"Simple simon, met a pieman, going to the fair, said simple simon to the pieman 'what have you got there' said the pieman to simple simon 'I've got a load of pies' said simple simon to the pieman 'eurgh they're all covered in flies"

Nice and light methinks, (may as well start with my namesake!!!)

My (8-year-old) daughter was taught this one recently:

Postman Pat, Postman Pat
Postman Pat ran over his cat
Blood and guts were flying
Postman Pat was crying
Now he has red wheels to match his van

I always liked this one:

There once was an ichthyosaurus
Who lived when the earth was all porous
But he fainted with shame
When he first heard his name
And departed a long time before us

We learned this one in second grade (waaaay back in the dark ages). I'm curious to know if kids today still sing it....

'Neath the crust of the old apple pie
There's something for you and for I
It may be a pin
That the cook has dropped in
Or it may be a dear little fly
It may be an old rusty nail
Or the end of a pussycat's tail
But whatever it be
It's for you and for me
'Neath the crust of the old apple pie

:)

Ooey Gooey was a slug,
A mighty slug was he;
He climbed upon the railroad tracks -
The train he did not see...

OOEY GOOEY!
