Subject: Favourite Names/Baby Names

Written By: Criz on 08/02/02 at 09:56 a.m.

Seen as there are lots of threads popping up about 'names', I thought I'd start my own! There musy be some names that you adore, or names that you would like to call your children. If you have kids, then why did you call them a certain name?

My favourite names are: for a girl - Ellena. I think it's such a pretty name and sounds lovely in Greek. For a boy, I really like names begining with 'J' for lads for some reason (like Joseph, Jack, Jordan are really nice), but 'Jacob' is my favourite. Maybe I'll call future kids by these names! :)

I've always said if I ever have a little girl, I would like to name her after my grandmother and her sister: Delfina Helen. I haven't really thought of any boy's names.

Danny (Daniel) or Rob (Robert) are names I would consider for a boy, and Chrissy/Tina/Christina for a girl-- I like most "original", unique names too (names that you don't hear often -- Jalen, for example.)

I think I'd maybe name one of my kids after me, in tradition (since I was named after my father).

Male-Lucas (or Luke)
Female-Megan or Caitlin.
Unisex-Kelly, Chris, Terry.
And I like Becky, not Rebecca.
But I'd probably name it something like Zulu Bendix or Murphy Bedd.  ;D (j/k)

Way back a long time ago, when I still thought I wanted kids, I had picked out Jareth Xavier (this was before Buffy, but after Labyrinth) for a boy and Aislyn for a girl.  It's probably a good thing I'm not going to have kids.  I'm much better at naming cats.

Boy or Girl - Unisex names like Taylor, Ashley (Ash) and Alex appeal to me.

Boy - Mitch, Gabriel (Not Gabe though), Zachary (Zach), and Evan.

Girl - Elizabeth (No shorts or nicks of it though), Amanda (Mandy), Victoria (Vikki, Vicky), Katerina (No short or nick), Katrina (No Trina. Maybe Kat would be good  ;) ).

I guess I'm into long names for the most part and not the ones too common like Jason or Brittney.

My favorite girls name is Sarah (which is my daughters name, too.  Imagine that.)

If she had been a boy she would have been Jared Michael.

That is just too serendipitious! My favorite girl's name is also Veronica. Favorite boy's name is probably Jerome.

I've always liked the exotic or unusual names.  My problem is that I find it hard to see the line between unusual and downright weird.

For a girl, I like names like Zenobia, Nefret, Deirdre, India, Latifa, Fatima, and other names not common in our culture, by maybe common elsewhere.

For boys I like Duncan, Lestat, Ramses, and Krishna.

My daughter is Tamantha,  Tammy for short which is the perfect balance.  Not common, but not "weird" either  ;)

You might give the child a complex about having her (or his) name misspelt, though....

I don't really have favourite names, apart from the following (which are my children's names, so I have a kind of bias there):

Nonie
Richard
Edmund
Cecilia

Phil

Here are mine:

Boy:  I thought of naming my son after myself but now I want to name him William Frederick.

Girl:  Amanda Marie.

I'm 45 and ought to be married but the thought of being committed to a woman still scares me.
