Baltimore has 2 homonymic(?) names besides the traditional nice 1s:
"the City that Breeds"
"the City that Bleeds"
Subject: Re: Your State City Nicknames
Boston is known either as "Beantown" or "The Hub".
"Beantown" for Boston Baked Beans, of course.
"The Hub" because Somebody Famous And Important (whose name I forget at the moment). once described the entire world as resembling a giant wheel, "with Boston as it's Hub" (that's the thing in the center that holds it all together). ;D

Colorado is known as the Centenial State. It became a state in 1876. I can't seem to find anything for Colorado Springs (Elevation 6,035 ft.) , but where my sister lives (Up the road about 17 miles to the west) near Woodland Park (Elevation 8,465ft.) , that is known as "The City Above The Clouds" Here is a view from near where my son Blaine and I used to run together...it's called "Garden Of The Gods"....followed by a view from the top of Pikes Peak looking east over Colorado Springs. Pikes Peak (Elevation 14,110 ft.)

Baltimore is where I grew up, and I remember those names (came out after one of the mayors had all the bus stop benches painted with The City that reads, which is funny since it had one of the highest illiteracy rates and teen pregnancy rates around). Baltimore's other nickname was The prettiest little City (and there are some very pretty sections there).
Where I went to college, Frostburg, had two nicknames, Frostbite and Frogburst. I don't know any nicknames for Virginia towns, haven't lived here that long (well, almost 4 years, but still...)

What happened to "Charm City"? Did it lose its charm that quickly? I was there during the Pope's visit in 1995, and it was scenic, but the people there were either stuck-up or rude. :(

I know you heard this before RnRF, those are some awesome pictures. Maybe I'll put mine up driving through CA, not as nice, but I still like the pics. Southern Michigan is flat, and I do mean flat. The only hills that are there, are man made hills. As for the UP (Upper Penninsula), it's different, it's so nice and the scenery is great. I also got some pics from Big Bear, CA. Those are awesome.

Thanks Dagwood....yes they are. I have some relatives living south of you in Goshen...there are some nice mountains out that way. The problem for me in Utah is that your mountain ranges are mostly to the east of you, whereas ours here in Colorado, along the front range, are to the west. I get quite turned around there ;) A couple of years ago I worked at the summit house on Pikes Peak. They have those telescopes up there , the ones where you put in 50 cents, well anyway I have a friend who lives just off the local highway down south in Security so I called her, via cell-phone, and she stood on her back fence and waved....I could see her from up there. It was really cool. I also have heard (Although never tried) that you can see a water tower in Cheyenne Wyoming from up there....if conditions are clear enough. It really feels like your on top of the world, especially when you can see clouds passing by Below you!

Red Rock - Located 20 miles from Las Vegas, visitors to Red Rock can hike, climb rocks, picnic and view plant and animal life under 3,000-foot high rock formations as colorful as the lights of the distant Las Vegas Strip.

Mount Charleston - Just 35 minutes from Las Vegas lies a whole different world where skiers swish down snow-covered slopes and hikers enjoy a mountain paradise
http://www.vegas.com/tours/images/lakemead1.jpg
Lake Mead - this is where Britney Spears shot her video "I'm not a girl, but not yet a woman." if you seen this video then you much more of Lake Mead.

Very nice pictures, everyone. There's no nickname for the town I live in, but some people refer to it as "that place" because it's a planned town and has strict rules and regulations. Here's one of my favorite spots to go to in our town:

Worcester, Mass.. it's officially called the "Heart of the Commonwealth" because it's in the center of Massachusetts, but generally people refer to it as Wormtown, a nickname from the late 70s punk scene that kinda stuck..
I sometimes post new pictures of the city on Worcestermass.com, but mostly old post cards.. I haven't really spent much time on it since I moved servers a few months ago.. hard to stay motivated on that site since it's so hard to get local interest on something like that..
