Subject: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
This is something I've wondered about for a long time. Do you dream when your out? When you wake up do you know what has happened? The Closest I've ever been was I was put to sleep for an opperation once, and I dreamed and I wasn't disoriented when I woke up.
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
I got knocked out once when I was slammed head first into a door jam...and I don't think anything happened..no dreams..anything...I just remember coming too..and it was like I lost time
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
Dreaming only happens through a semi-unconscious mind - to explain it simply, you've got to be there to know what's happening, and, ideally, although dreams, as such, you shouldn't be able to control, you should know what's happening while you're dreaming it. Unconsciousness does not give you this ability. Effectively, as cricket says, you just lose that stretch of time from your life.
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
To elaborate further, I was once unconscious having fallen off my bike during the summer. Fortunately, (and I have to say it was fortunate), it was during the summer, so there was no threat of staying off school (as such). I simply woke up later having lost that stretch of time, as if I had been in an operation under anaesthetic.
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
Okay, stupid question here...is being unconscious as a result of a head trauma the same as being sedated by gas or drugs? Is there a doctor in the house?
I recall a time when even routine dental work was coupled with being sedated with gas (laughing gas?). I remember to this day always hearing music. The same music each and every visit to the dentist. And it wasn't from the Muzak.

I was knocked unconscious once and I don't remember dreaming. I just remember waking up and my Mom was holding a cold cloth on my head (I ran into a door just as it was opening).

You shouldn't be able to control your dreams? thats wierd because I've had many dreams where I had to make a desicion, and If a choose the wrong one I was able to go back and choose right.

I didn't mean just head Trauma anytime you were out is ok.
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
Without meaning to intrude too far, you must have known in your head that the wrong decision that you've made, and, more important, the repercussions. You were, in effect, able to control the decisions, and, far from being led astray, you managed to choose the right thing, the way that you should have gone. The right decision which you knew in your heart.

Yes, but I was in surgery at the time. ;D

I'm unconcious right now! ;)

Me too!

Back in '95 I was preparing to watch a tape of a fottball game. I started the tape then quickly dashed outside to get a beer from the outside fridge, when I slammed into the laundy pole....Laugh all you want, I even do now! I woke up with a horrible headache and crawled back into the house...the game was almost over!
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
Ahh, that's a bummer. What was the result?
Sorry, that just came out. Ouch, I'm sorry to hear about that, RnR.
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
When I was nine I was hit by a car. I didn't know I had been hit until I came to in the ambulance. I only suffered minor injuries, though…
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
My last operation...I don't even remeber missing time. It was on September 8, 1998 (Mark McGuire's big day!) I had broken my ankle and had to have screws and such put in there. The wheeled me feet first into the operating room and turned the bed around. I looked down and had a cast. I don't remember going to sleep at all...it was like one continuous stream of consciousness. Pretty weird.

Me too. I remember bits and pieces of things as I was coming out of the effects of the anesthesia. I remember the nurse asking me questions and nodding my head in response. ("Yes, I'm in pain... give me some damn morphine!") ;)

Have you ever had morphin directly injected into the vein. When I broke my ankle they gave me an IV with morphine. Man, was that nice.
we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread

Hmmm...let's see. When I was 4, I fell out of a Kmart basket (I was sitting on the edge of it) and knocked myself out. All I remember is waking up and having all these people staring at me. Then when I was 8, I fell out of a tree. I just remember waking up with an awful headache. I don't think I dreamed during either one of these incidents. I did dream a bit when I had surgery though. Then I woke up to horrible pain. :(

Yes, bet that beer was tasty after that! But again, who won the FOTTBALL game, and what is fottball, anyway? Does one have to have massive quanities of brewski's and head injuries to play?? ;)
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
I have, twice.
The first time I was 11 years old and having major spinal surgery. I remember the anesthesiologist (did I spell that right?) putting a large rubber mask over my face, and asking me to cound backwards from 100. Then I got one of those stinging sensations in my eyes, like you do when a bit of dust suddenly flies in. I closed my eyes, and when I opened them I was in a different room. It was two days later, and if I dreamed, I don't remember any of it. I'm told I spoke quite a bit, from pestering my father to buy me a particular stuffed animal we had seen in the gift shop, to complaining about how loud those darn crickets were singing. (That may have been a dream, or hallucination--see the cicada thread for more).
I also fainted once, when I had the flu. I was walking down the hallway from the kitchen to the living room, then I was "dreaming" that I was inside a washing machine. Everything was spinning, and I could swear to you I saw shirts, socks, towels, everything spinning in the air around me. Next thing I knew I was in my own bed, with my mom, our downstairs neighbors and two paramedics all around me. Apparently, I hit my head on something on the way down, and they took me to the hospital to rule out a concussion. I had just turned 13.

Yes, I had quite a few morphine injections in my bottom while recuperating post-surgery. Luckily, I didn't get hooked on that stuff!!! :o

I hated that part of surgery!! When I had mine, i woke up and could not breath! :o That was the scariest feeling ever!!!
My brother once did that thing where you would, breath in and out fast-like 10 times than hold your breath and somone would push up on your chest, which wolud make you pass out.
That was an odd feeling..like cricket said, "I just remember coming too..and it was like I lost time"

Well If You MUST know....and sagnastian will kick my *ss for this, but we beat Michigan...whom I have a LOT of respect for (Brian Griese included) on the final play 27-26..great game! Although I did miss the replay on tape! I must also add that the Wolverines, IMO won the national championship outright by going into thier bowl game in '97 ranked #1 and winning..much like Colorado was (Although controversially) ranked #1 in 1990 and won thier bowl game over a much higher ranked opponent (Notre Dame #3) than Goergia Tech played (Nebraska #20 something) and yet they were forced to share the title.

Sorry, darlin', but it's YOUR spelling.
I'd like to know what it is, too. Is it anything like Foozball or maybe Calvinball? ;D
Subject: Re: Has anyone ever been unconsious?
I fainted at school once when I was 11. I remember passing out, and then waking up, but that's it. I've also passed out due to over indulgence in alcohol a few times, but I'm not sure if I was completely unconscious. I called an ambulance for a guy I found passed out on the sidewalk one night. How long he'd been there I have no idea, but I ran out of fingers and toes counting the number of people who just stepped over him as they walked by.
