Subject: I am so bored right now!
As many of you know I'm plannng to re-enlist in the NAVY. But, right now I'm unemployed and really board. Funny how at work you can't wait to get off, and now that I don't have a job I can't wait to go back to work. :-[

Don't be discouraged, Screwball. I've been unemployed before myself. (Not recently, luckily. :o) I know you will represent this country splendidly. But until then, a little patience will have to do. I'm sure a lot of great men had to wait their lifetimes to achieve their glory. So the boredom you experience now will pay off in the long run. ;)

Do you still have to go to basic? Do you get to maintain your last rank?

No, if I had to go to basic I wouldn't do It. I've only been out 9 months so I remain an E-5, get a re-enlistment bonus, and still get paid for my six years exp. But I do have to start my time in rate over again so it will be three years before I can advance to E-6.

I don't even get up till 11 a.m.. I've seen The same episodes of Law and Order on A&E about ten times. I know the outcome of every Judge Judy episode. I find myself watching the News and HSN just to see something different..

I've been unemployed myself.I used to work in Genovese Drugs 9 years ago.I got fired in 1994 and started going on SSI benefits which suck now to this day.Right now,I attend a sheltered workshop and the paychecks are very crappy.I feel bored now b-cause I don't have a regular job.I hope to be quitting my workshop sometime soon. -howard-(don't call me jammin'!) :D

You know what? I actually had a job! For two days! This is not unusual for me, so let me suggest some things I've done...
Most people don't realize what a complicated instrument the fiddle is. Taking it up after you're thirty and without the ability to read music is a real challenge. It's also loads of fun explaining the noise to your neighbors. ("I swear to God, I'm not microwaving my cat!")
Parties always need good party tricks. While everybody else is at work they can't be spying on you and figuring out how you find the right card every single time or how you do that thing with the two corks.
You got a dartboard?
I am in the process of writing a book. I find this is the perfect thing to inspire creativity... see, if I can't figure out anything to do then I'll have to sit down and write. (My goodness my sinks are clean!)
And an hour a week I'm going to start volunteering with School on Wheels. Corrupting young minds is always a worthwhile endeavor!
So good luck!

If you don't mind my asking, what did you do in the navy? I was an AO2 when I got out in '91.
I see what you mean about not wishing to endure basic again. I don't think I'd want to either. Having said that, I tried to get back in a few months after being discharged, but at the time the navy wasn't taking prior service...so I nearly joined the army. Everything was done, I just had to sign the paper...egads!
Upon reflection, maybe I was a bit institutionalized and that prompted me to want to reenlist. I remember always asking myself why I decided leave the service in the first place, and in hindsight, perhaps I should've stayed in. I would've had 15 years-in and 5 more to go 'till retirement.
I wish you the best of luck, fair winds and following seas. :)

Thanks, I was an ET2 on th USS TRENTON. My main NEC was TACAN, but I repaired the copiers and was the only radar tech onboard for about a year. Not that i was In yet. but I've Heard that right after the gulf war was the worst time to try to go back in, they were paying people to get out. The reason I got out was I thought I'd due better on the outside, but none of my friends who got out when I did have steady jobs.
