Subject: Does anyone else hate the mall?
I don't know what it is about it, Maybe it's the overpriced stores, maybe its the crowds of people, maybe its the stupid kids that hang out there, But I can't stand the mall.
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
And whatever shop you go to, they're always mass-situated around the hoodie section?
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
only during the day...never at nite or weekends...it seems to be a place for people to dump off their kids and have someone else to worry with them...I was NEVER allowed to go to the mall by myself as a teen.....but times change I guess!!!

Here they are all situated around the perfume section.

I agree with you! I hate going to the mall, and I try to avoid it as much as I can.
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
The thing I hate most about the malls are the stuck-up sales people, the teeny-boppers that frequent there, the fight to find parking spaces, and the crying toddlers. The worst mall in Indy is also the biggest, the Circle Center Mall downtown. The security is the worst. If it's not the street gangs that loiter there, it's the stupid spoiled teens that make whooping and yelling noises. It may be a pretty mall, but to me it's pretty lame. :-/

I still dig the mall when there's something I want to purchase there, but you're right, the prices really are through the ceiling.
The days of spending most of the day at the mall are certainly gone, now, as evidenced by my aching dogs and tired legs after an hour or two. Last weekend my GF and I went to the mall because she needed to buy a pair of shoes to wear to her brother's wedding...my brothers, never go clothes shopping with your lady...! (I haven't learned my lesson, yet...)

I shop at the Gap whenever they have a clearance sale. Some of that stuff is almost a give away! I bought 6 pairs of flat-front Khakis for $100 (USD). That's less than $20 a pair! And these clothes, unlike the K-Mart ones, don't shrink when you wash them, which is cool for someone who washes everything without reading labels...

TB, I agree with you, Gap has really low prices. My sister has gotten shirts there before for $1.97!!
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
There is only one mall I don't mind going to. It is a block from where I work, and it is the one where all the elderly people go and walk every day. I have never been there at night, so I don't know what it is like then. During the day, though it is mostly grown ups with a couple of toddlers mixed in. Never had any probs except with the prices.

I only visit the mall once or twice a year.It just gets too crowded for me.The Food Courts are absolutely disgusting.very filthy. :P -howard-
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
I just thought of another thing I hate, the abandon mall, used to be the center of shopping, not since they built the newer mall closer to the suburbs, now its just a big empty run down box sitting thier in the middle of town.

I like going to the bookstores in the mall to check out the cheap books. I hate going to the record stores, though. $20 for a CD is just outrageous! I usually buy my CD's at Wal-Mart or Circuit City where they are cheaper. But then again, the mall record stores do have some bargains. Recently I bought 3 CD's for $18, one of them being a Culture Club greatest-hits CD…

My sister and I went to the mall yesterday. $19.99 for a Bob Dylan CD she wanted at Sam Goody. Got it at Wal Mart a little bit later for $9.

They do. And so does Kmart. (For example, a White Zombie CD cover had to be edited so that the girl on the cover is wearing something. And a recent Bloodhound Gang album was retitled "Hooray" and showed only a cow's udder.) I think Circuit City sells the unedited versions, though. They're pretty cheap.

Our mall used to be the MAIN street throught the centre of the city.
Now all that happens there is :
The rest of the city's traffic flow is stuffedYou can pay top dollar for things that are cheaper elsewhereIt's given the hoons a new place to beat people up at night

You said it, J.C.! I try as much as possible to avoid malls...especially during the holiday season. It seems that parking is horrendous at any of the malls here in my area.
There was a time in my life when I just loved going to the mall...probably because they were unheard of where I grew up. But now that I live near one it's no big thing. And besides, all they seem to have are dress shops or shoe shops anyway! >:(

I hate going to the mall because of the kids that hang out there. Can't their parents find somewhere else to drop them off? ::)
I avoid the mall at all costs.

J.C., speaking of you hating long lines and such, I love your "The Christmas Shopping Song" (Stealer's Wheel Parody.)

Wal-Mart does sell edited versions of cd's. Best Buy sells both and the label indicates whether or not it is edited. I'm glad they sell the edited version because both of my sons (age 12 and 14) love all of the latest music but some of the language and subject matter is inappripriate for teenage boys! They are so impressionable! So I prefer that they purchase only the edited versions of some atists.
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
Well,we don't really have malls in the U.K.Though they are starting to spring up.So it tends to be a trip to the high street and the shopping centre for me.As for shopping all I can say is 'I shop therefore I am'!
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
I'm not a big fan. They're opening a new mall about 1.5 miles from my neighborhood in August...The roads around it do not have enough lanes to accommodate the traffic...I'm sure traffic will be backed up on the main artery near my subdivision the first few weekends it's open. >:(
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
I used to "hang out" at a suburban mall as a teen, (and that was age 16 + up). There were lots of cool stores then, and we actually bought something, even if it was just an ice cream at the Brigham's.
That same mall now is fast going downhill. at least 40% of the shops are empty and management cannot get stores in. My friends and I quit going when the management quit allowing the busses to stop there. None of us wanted to walk across two parking lots and a four-lane highway from the next nearest stop.
I'm guessing they wanted it to become an "upscale" place, but this mall, while in the suburbs, is just in the wrong location for any "upscale" customers to be bothered to travel to--too close to the city for the wealthier suburbs, and too far away for the wealthy city denizens to bother with.
Subject: Re: Does anyone else hate the mall?
On the other hand, there is a fairly decent mall nearby, in Cambridge (the city next door to Boston).
It is huge, has good stores, a clean food court, and the prices are pretty good. It is even near several bus lines, and a train stop.
But I will not be caught dead there after dark, for fear I will be caught dead there. There are a lot of gangs "hanging out" there, and while it's supposed to be "neutral territory", there have been several fights break out. Since the beginning of the year, there have been beatings, stabbings and even a shooting.
I'm afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.

Seems as if the city planners here in Mission Viejo should have heard of your example - the same thing happened to the Mission Viejo Mall (now know as "The Shops") and the utter failure of The Kaleidoscope accross the street. They wanted to make it like South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, but somehow the rich still don't bother to shop at home and instead clutter Costa Mesa streets. I thought that was good. I wouldn't want any more traffic as it is down here...
