Subject: Collections?
What does everyone here collect? As a child, I used to have really great seashell collection. Every shell was labeled and identified in a little book. Then when I moved out of state my mother took the whole collection and dumped it roughly into plastic bags and tossed it into the basement, 'cus it was taking up drawer space. :(
Now I just collect ancestors. I've been collecting ancestors for 28 years! :D

Have a collection of Coke bottle tops from when coke had its "Coke is it" game, Magic the gathering cards, and old computer games :P
Subject: Re: Collections?
A lot it seems. I'm a confessed pack-rat. ;D ;)
See, I keep thinkin' it'll be neat for me to be 80 years old and say "This is the way Coca-Cola bottles were made in the past...".

I collect business cards. You can get 'em anywhere, they're free, and they make my wallet look thick ;D
Of course, they're not in my wallet anymore. I have hundreds of them.
Subject: Re: Collections?
I don't know if you would call it collecting, but I have a large number of candles! I LOVE candles! And I also have 2 bookcases full of books, all kinds and authors. Instead of borrowing a certain book from the library, I just go out and buy it. I don't usually loan then out unless it's to family (Cricket!) and only if they (she) promises not to lose it!
Subject: Re: Collections?
The only thing I really collect now is books. Well, and yard gadgets.
Subject: Re: Collections?
It was never intended, but apparently I collect hair products and makeup. :/
Subject: Re: Collections?
I collect 70s/80s sitcom memorabilia. I absolutely love Ebay, and I am constantly trying to find new items to add to my collection. I have original scripts from the Bob Newhart Show (my fav. show of all time), autographed pictures from lots o' different actors, stickers, trading cards...you name it!
By the way, my b-day is this Tuesday, so if anyone wants to buy me some memorabilia, I won't object. ;)

I collect EUROPE memorabilia, since the release of The Final Countdown in 86/87. To date my collection is worth in excess of $11,000 ;D
Yup! im a EUROPE FREAK!
Subject: Re: Collections?
CDs (got a whole stack of 'em somewhere, cannot be bothered to fish them out)
Postcards (I've dedicated my whole bedroom to my collection of around 16000 postcards over the last 5 years)
Subject: Re: Collections?
Def Leppard and Pac Man memorabilia...
And apparently computers and computer parts...
Subject: Re: Collections?
I used to have a Spiderman comic book collection back in the day, but then I sold it to pay the rent :-/
I currently collect music - mainly all the New Wave, synth stuff with the occassional Rock and miscellany. Books (I only have on Billy book shelf full though - Billy book shelfs can be bought at IKEA :D ), DVDs, videos (Eurotrash and New Wave flix from France and Italy). The thing is, if the place gets full of stuff, I end up giving it away (or selling it) to trim it all down and keep collecting.

I also collect all my change in a jar when I come home at night, then take it to the bank when it's full. Those pennies add up.

What's funny about collecting Dept. 56 buildings? I have one and my fiance has four. We're collecting them now because we know they will be worth something one day. They're great investments (they should be at those prices...goodness!).

Humm since you have those scale buildings SB, do you have the trains to go with? :D
When I was a kid I loved putting up the train around the christmas tree and setting the HO buildings that went with them, we had about 15 buildings that my brother and I hand painted... Too bad my dad sold the entire set, we even had a couple of 50's vintage HO marklin train sets as well as some old Tycos

Thr first part is kind of funny because those buildings are meant to go with Model trains, and I don't Collect the trains, just the Buildings. Most the Dept 56 I have are guy Buildings(IMHO), a store was closing here last season and I got a lot of them for cheap. I would never sell any of them. (a couple of the Mine date back to the early 80's.)

There was an awesome store in our outlet mall devoted entirely to Dept. 56 collections, but it burned down last year. There are a lot of stores in Gatlinburg, TN that sell the sets for dirt cheap.

It feels nice to find them for cheap, But I get upset that I paid full price for sum of them. Perfect example: two years ago I bought the Graceland set for $170 last year I saw it in a store for $70. They had a new set in that series (the Palms $120.00) but I'll just wait untill this year to see if it goes down in price.

Have you ever thought about buying from Ebay? I'm sure you can find some good deals there.

I have, but I feel that you have to inspect these before you buy them. Ebay dosen't give you a chance to do that, plus if its broken you gotta pay to ship it back.
Subject: Re: Collections?
I have a small collection of elephant figurines. The only way I will buy one is if it makes me smilie when i look at it. Yes, that is odd. :P
I also have a few Barbies and a porcelin doll. Which are stuck up in my closet. :-/

When I was a young girl my mother handed down her collection of glass animals to me. I continued to collect them until the one day when my oldest brother knocked over the shelving unit and they all went crashing to the floor! :'( I couldn't bear to part with them so I got some super glue and proceeded to "fix" them as best I could. I still have them but I don't bring them out very often (no place to put them).
Nowadays I collect CD's and keychains. I also have an assortment of shells but I haven't added to it in quite some time. Zella...it looks like we have more than just music in common! ;D
Subject: Re: Collections?
I collect depression glass...people really don't know what their stuff is worth, and I pick up a lot of great stuff at garage sales...my best deal was a pink glass tumbler that I picked up for a nickle-I later sold it for $20.00!

Same here. Mostly 12-inch singles and remix service comps. I only have about 100 full length albums on vinyl. The other 1900 or so are singles. Approx. forty 45's, and close to 200 CDs...

As a kid, I used to collect the Breyer Horses. They were of high-quality substance, possibly resin. They were a lot better than plastic. They had realistic texturing, and colors. There was at least one of each breed, and all to scale with each other. They still make them, but my daughter is not into them (yet).
When I worked in the comic book store, I collected everything that we carried. Most of it is still in storage (at mom's house). One of these days I will have to go throught them to see what to keep and what to sell.
Right now I am following Donna Barr's work. I have a complete set of The Desert Peach and I am working on catching up with the Stinz series and her other work.
I am also trying to collect Lady Death titles, and The Legion of Super Heroes.
