Subject: Re: There are more things in life than video games

Our mayor, Bart Simps..., I mean Bart Peterson, tried to pass a law banning violent video arcade games from children under 16 without parental consent. Needless to say, the bill was declared unconstitution by the Supreme Court. And now the city (that is the taxpayers) has to pay for the Mayor's faux pas. I knew the first time I heard he was making a law on games that it was a lost cause. Now he can't even afford his own chauffeur, since the IPD officer at the wheel of his government car was stone drunk and caused an accident that nearly killed the Mayor. Payback's a killer, even for someone as well-respected as Brat, er Bart. ;)

Yes I agree video games are great they have great technology in most of their games, and good graphics.
But when it comes to work, relationships, life, and family,
video games come almost very last.

Same with t.v., there is important information on television,
but the shows and some of the entertainment, I could do without.

Figures, it seems to me that they should be spending more time on other things than worrying about arcades & vid games.. It seems to me that a few senators could use the "rude awakening" as well

Regarding the topic title, although I am myself a very experienced games player, I believe currently the companies are going over the top with competition. Nintendo have just releaded the Gamecube, Microsoft the X-Box, and Sony (although not recently) The PS2 (reports say that the PS3, although development has started, won't be developed fully until 2005). This will give users the time to wear out the PS2s, and not ask for refunds as soon as they've bought their PS2. As for violent games, I do own Karate Combat, Tekken's 2 and 3, and Barbarian (which, at its time, was considered violent). I wouldn't see harm in banning these from sale, but personally, I am yet to view for myself the correlation between playing violent (beat-em-up, slash-em-up, and the new hack-em-up) games for the various machines. Until I see it for myself, I am sorry to say that I can't quite comprehend it fully.

I got a Feeling that the next wave of systems is going to be less of an improvement than the current ones were over the last.  You can only due so much with a regular TV, and HDTV wont be Common enough for a video game system.  Banning games is not the answer.  The Harm is if the government bans one game, then they think they have a right to ban every game.

How long do you reckon before the games makers come up with BTL (Better Than Life for non-Red Dwarf fans)?

The sort of complete immersion game where you don't even realize you're playing....
