- People who claim that 'so and so' is the best band ever. And, even when you say, well 'it's your opinion' they disgaree with you and say, 'No, so and so ARE the best band ever.' My God - I HATE THAT!

- People who have to justify why they're being prejudice in any way.

You have just reminded me of something I read in a book some years back - it was about the history of language, but written in a humerous way, for 12ish yr old. I'll type this out for you:

Rotten Rules of Gruesome Grammar:

1. Don't spell rongly
2. Don't never use no 'double-negatives'
3. Always use full stops they make sentances easier to read every sentance needs one
4. Always check your work to make sure you haven't any words out.
5. Always a verb in every sentance
6. Always, word order is important, reading easier to make, remeber.
7. Don't use a comma, where you, don't need, one.
8. Don't use attenuated asserverations when uncomplicated vicabulary will suffice.
9. Alway's use apostrophe's as you teacher's tell you.
10. And never start a senatnce with...'and'!

I love getting funny forwards - but when they're full of crap, I wish people hadn't bothered. My friend Helen is like that - she sends EVERYTHING just so, by any chance she doesn't get any of this so called 'bad luck' (oxymoron :)) I got one about Bill Gates giving people money, and I just thought, my arse! Like Bill Gates would give us all money for sending a random crappy forward!!

The ones I hate are the ones on hotmail - saying if you don't send this, your account will get deleated. I've had that chain e-mail about 10 times, and still, my e-mail is alive and well. I even got a letter off hotmail saying to ignore these ridiculous e-mails, and just to prove the stupity of my friend Helen ( sorry Hel - but I've told you a million times not to send them!) she sent me another one that very same day, Arghh - some people! ( Luv ya really Hel - just incase your randomly a member on this msg board   :-X)

I'll be honest with you, 99.9% of all forwarded messages about virii asking you to pass it along are hoaxes, plain and simple.  When you get one of these, it's safe to delete it.  The identifiers are:
1.  They state that no virus detection program (Norton's Antivirus, McAfee VirusSacn, etc) can pick them up. Trust me, it's these guys JOB to make their software catch all virii.  When a new virus comes out, these guys will have an updated Virus Data File ready within 2 days max.  If a virus was out that they COULDN'T catch within that time frame, it would be national news, not just a forwarded email.
2. They say that they found they have it, so you will, too.  Did they send you an actual file with an attachment?  Did you open it?  How long ago?  Did your Antivirus program catch anything, at the time or since then?  You have kept it updated, right?  If they didn't send you any attachments, or you didn't open any from them, chances are they didn't GIVE you anything.
3. They ask you to pass it on to everyone in your address book.  Doesn't this strike you as a little chain mail-ish?  Of COURSE it does, because it IS!  All that's missing is the "If you don't, you'll never have sex/you'll have 20 years of bad luck/everyone will hate you for the rest of your life."

Your suggestion of checking it out at either of those websites is a good one, but it is almost being OVER cautious.  These kinds of messages IMHO are simply started by people who don't have the technical know-how to make their own virus, so they use people's fears of virii against them and trick them into deleting necessary files instead.  Preying on that fear can be just as effective as a virus.

True.  I've learned the hard way myself, but there are a lot of "computer dummies" in my office (and I admit I'm one of them, too).  Our "orders" are to check out every single warning, or else.

That's why no one gets my work e-mail address.  I can't be bothered dealing with this stuff every ten minutes.

McAfee annoys me greatly we installed it on our computer and it took 39 minutes!!! for the computer to re-boot. EVERY TIME WE TURNED IT ON.
