Subject: Smilies... I know I'm opening a can of worms...

I use a mod-rewrite which will prevent you from using them anywhere but here, but that doesn't mean you can't upload them to other sites or anything...
abuse them, and well...

Just curious Chucky... what constitutes abuse?

um.. I don't know, I'd know if it I saw it..
it's more of a "if I see a lot of bandwidth being consumed from this directory, it'll have to go"..
but if it's installed properly, I don't think I'll have any problems... and my new webhost gives me plenty of bandwidth, so I shouldn't have to worry..
of course if people start posting 50 of them in every message, I'll have to get nasty too...
Subject: Re: Smilies... I know I'm opening a can of worms..
I say do whatever it takes to prevent another bandwidth problem. Smilies can be a good thing when taken in moderation. 8)

I may sound old-fashioned, but I must express that I object to the bloody smilies.
I don't believe there'd be any real use for them and some people may become offended by them.
I don't believe they'd be missed. http://www.clicksmilie.de/sammlung/sauer/sauer042.gif

If they don't like them, they don't have to use them. As for offense, any and all of us could take offense to anything said or any picture shown....it's how we deal with it that matters. We're adults here (well, most of us http://www.inthe00s.com/smilies/wink3.gif ) and I think we'll be all right.
Is there going to be a permanent link somewhere so we can find these, Chucky, or should we save the URL?
Subject: Re: Smilies... I know I'm opening a can of worms..
I don't want to advertise it too much, so I'd say save the link.. I posted it in the members forum, figuring that only a few dozen people would see it, rather than on the front page or something where hundreds and thousands would..
I was going to add more to the top bar, but figured it wouldn't really wouldn't be easy to pick which to use, and people would bug me for more, etc...

So, exactly how many pages of new smilies are there? I gave up after looking at 11 pages.
Technical question, now. Since I'm still on a dial-up that can be slow at times, I don't always like to open a second browser window. At the other smiley sites, I copied the code (or link) into a Word document, then I just copy it into the board as I want. If I keep these smilies in a separate document so I don't get confused, will they still work? I've seen some here I like, that I haven't found elsewhere.
Subject: Re: Smilies... I know I'm opening a can of worms..
Actually, I could use some of these for a new avatar, since most of my avatars lately have been smilies. :)

I found that there are 30 pages of them! And none of them are my exploding smiley. I found that one to be so cool…
Subject: Re: Smilies... I know I'm opening a can of worms..
Where did you get the exploding one, anyway? That one's funny :D

I found it at this site:

There's a whole page, actually three, of them there…

the smilies are set up to only work on this site, the link won't change, so you can save it where ever you like, and can even save copies of them.. but if you try and link to this site to use it when you are using another site, it won't show up.. so to use a smilie you like here somewhere else, you need to upload it to a website somewhere...

Sound fair to me.
I'll save the document as Chucky's Smilies, so I won't try to use them somewhere elese.
Thirty pages of them, though??? And not sorted? It'll take me forever to find what I'm looking for.
Unless you'd like a "sorting volunteer"? 8)

nah.. I don't want to spend that much time playing with them, I just wrote a quickie script to make the html pages.. I figure there's enough smilie pages out there, if anyone wants a specific similie they can use one of those pages to hunt it down

I love smilies! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/invasion.gif
P.S. To those who'd like to know where a certain smiley came from, just right click on the smiley, click properties, and you'll see the url of the site :)
