Subject: Siblings?
I guess this would be part three in the "Playful Penguin Getting to Know You Series." (parts 1 and 2 being "When were you born" and "where were you born").
How many of you have siblings? Older? Younger? etc. etc.
I have a brother 12 years my senior. He just took an early retirement and has recently moved from Kansas to enjoy a life of luxery in the backwaters of northern Alabama. ;D

This is a great idea, Zella! As most of you know, Youngcricket is my little sister. She's 4 years younger than me. We also have a much younger sister(my dad's from his second marriage) who is 21.
Subject: Re: Siblings?
Three brothers and one sister, all older than me. We're getting together this summer for a "siblings only" vacation. It's sort of become an annual event since my dad died - no children, no spouses, just us!!
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have one sister who lives in Utah...One brother in California and one brother in Colorado. I am the baby ;D
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have two brothers (one of whom is dead) and a sister. At least they don't live far away from me.
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have 1 sister who I think is 18, if I am right.
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have two sisters; one is older and one is younger. My eldest sister lives in FL somewhere...I am not exactly sure where. I have only seen her a few times in the last 30 years...
My younger sister lives up here. We are pretty close. My Mom lives with her right now, but there is a possibility that she will move in with me.
My father passed away ten years ago.
There you have it! ;)
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have one younger sister, she's 3 1/2 years younger than I am. We live in the same town, along with our dad, so we see each other all the time. :)
Subject: Re: Siblings?
My sister is 1 1/2 years older than me. No others. :)
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have two brothers, one older (by 15 years!) and one younger, by 1 1/2 years. {My mom thought she had the flu with me, and my younger brother she thought she was going through the change. Suprise!!! :o :o}
My best friend is not related to me, but my daughter calls her "Auntie" anyways. It's a tradition I learned from my mom. Back in the day, children were not supposed to call adults by their first names, as it was considered rude. Your parents friends were "Mr." and/or "Mrs." Whomever. But it was silly to call mom's best friend "Mrs. Somebody" if she was literally at your house every day, and knew all of the family secrets.
So the family would compromise. Mom's best friend became "Auntie" Ann, or "Auntie" Mary. Dad's close friends would also be "Uncle" Joe or "Uncle" Bob.
Is this tradition regional, or is it common where you live too?
Subject: Re: Siblings?
My family is a mixed bag o' lollies!
As far as siblings are concerned, I was the only child until the age of 11, then I was introduced to an older brother (from a previous marriage of my mum's) aged 14, and older sister 16.
I went overnight from being the only child to the baby of the family.
Then when I was 22 I had contact with my father and paternal side of the family for the very first time. I then learned I had 2 younger bothers from my fathers recent marriage (!)
So I immediately became the 'middle child'.
Its been a rollercoaster ride finding all these members of family in nooks and crannies - I just wonder who else they may have stashed away for a rainy day! ;)

I have a younger sister, Nicolle, and we are 7 years apart. I was very disappointed when mom didn't bring home a baby brother. I'm not disappointed anymore, though. Well, I take that back. Brothers don't borrow your brand new clothes and ruin them, do they? Well, at least the "normal" brothers don't borrow their sister's clothes. :) If my sister would STAY OUT OF MY CLOSET, she wouldn't be half bad. ARGH!
By the way, I am very proud of my parents. They've been married 29 years AND they were High School sweethearts. I look up to them, and I hope my marriage is as strong after 30 years as theirs. It's not every day you find a couple who still loves each other after all those years.

That's great that your parents have been together for so long. My parents have been together for almost 23 years and no matter how much they argue, you can tell they still love each other.

I have 3 older sisters and an older brother...I'm the baby of 5...
My oldest sister is 7 years older and lives in Alberta.
The next oldest sister is 6 years older and lives in my basement.
My brother is 5 years older and lives in my old hometown with my parents, Grandparent's on my Mom's side and my other older sister who is 18 months older than me. They don't all live together...just in the same town...as does my youngest daughter and my ex-wife...
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have an older sister and brother so I too am the baby.My parents have been married 38 years this year not bad going really!
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have two older sisters (50 & 47) and an older brother (44).
Of the sisters, one still lives in Brisbane and the older one moved to Sydney.
My brother lives in Noosa.
All are married. Out of that I have 4 nieces and 4 nephews, ranging from 27 years to 6 years.

Me, I'm an only child. Appear to be the only one so far who has replied!
Apparently this is what I am supposed to be! :
Only Child
- Pampered and spoiled.
- Feels incompetent because adults are more capable.
- Is center of attention; often enjoys position. May feel special.
- Self-centered.
- Relies on service from others rather than own efforts.
- Feels unfairly treated when doesn't get own way. May refuse to cooperate.
- Plays "divide and conquer" to get own way.
- May have poor peer relations as child but better relations as adult
- Pleases other only when wants to.
- Creative
- May have striving characteristics of oldest and inadequacy feelings and demands of youngest.

It is common in my house. I was "Aunt Dagny" to my best friend's children until they became too old for that kinda baby thing...and she is Aunt Susan to my daughter. Her babysitter is also Aunt Angie. Heck, I have been known to still refer to my moms best friend as Aunt Edna. ;)

Not very accurate, at least not in my case. Some of that fits me, but not very much.

I don't find it very accurate, either. It's very negative I must say! I disagree with 3/4 of what it says for 'only child', and i only strongly agree with 'creative' :) .
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have what you would term as "half-brothers" (two of them). One is 14 years younger than me and the other 21. I have a step-sister who is 4 years younger than me. There is also another "half brother" that is 7 years younger than me, but I have never met him.

To Criz' point about the only child--my brother and I were both "only children." :D He had my parents to himself for 12 years until I came along, then I had them to myself from the age of five, as he got married at 18. So we were both spoiled! ;D
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I'm the oldest--one younger brother we are 20 months apart- one step brother--2 half brothers and a sibling whom I cant identify-"shim" was born when I was about 6 years old--I was told the baby died in the hospital then the same day I over heard that the baby was put up for adoption---one day I shall learn the truth!!!!!-Wouldn't mind having a sister :)
Subject: Re: Siblings?
I have one brother who is three years older than me. Much of my taste in music started with him, since he is the biggest Duranie I know IRL (the fact that he was friends with the nephew of Paul Humphreys of O.M.D. didn't hurt either).
I have a couple of step-sisters and brother, from both sides of my parents. I also have various in-law brother and sisters (all of which are younger than me).

My only sibling is three years younger and lives on the other side of the country from me. She's currently persuing her Post-Doctorate degree in biogenetics at Harvard and just came in second in her last bicycle race. Yeah. Not impressive at all. And she's gorgeous. And funny. And single.
And my bestest friend. (And I don't know WHY, but I feel compelled to point out that SHE never locked me out of a website. The house a couple of times growing up, maybe...)
