Has anyone had a supernatural experience?  Do any of you have real life ghost stories to tell?

I have one....don't know what it means...but....

one nite..me and the ex hubby was sitting in the living room..windows open.....and I was telling him as a child I always wanted a cat, but my mom and grandmom did not want me to have one.  (btw, we lived next door to my grandparents)  My grandpa always told me he would get me one some day, but he passed on in 88 and I never got the cat.  And I was telling the ex how bad I still wanted a cat.  Well at that EXACT moment..a black and white tom cat JUMPED up on my foyer window and attached himself to the screen...I ran out and got him..and he was mine from the moment on....until the ex and I got divorced a few months later...and then the cat (known as Sebastian by then) disappeared at the same time.  One of those things that always made me wonder? !!!!!!!

I Haven't had any ghost experiences but this is interesting ghost dog story:

My dog ginger died on friday night,  So the next day I was on the phone with my grandmother and she said it was wierd because she had a dream That she was walking down a hill and she saw Clancy (her dog died 10 years ago).  Then she saw dusti (my dog died 5 years ago).  Then she saw Ginger and they were all playing with each other.  I asked her if she knew ginger had died before the she had the dream and she said she didn't know until I told her.

That's friggin' weird.  Maybe your ex took Sebastian w/ him - perhaps he hid him from you while he was moving.  Or, perhaps your grandpa was reincarnated through the cat, and he was fulfilling his promise to you.  Of course, I don't really believe in reincarnation.

I think cats - or all animals for that matter - can see things that we as humans are unable to see.  For instance, when I was a Freshman in High School, I had a friend who always told me stories about spirits in her house.  The spirits, she claimed, were evil.  Well, I spent the night at her house ONCE.  The SECOND I walked into her house, I wanted to leave.  It 's hard to explain, but I felt a horrible heaviness in her home, almost akin to the heaviness you feel at a funeral home...that aching feeling of despair and hopelesness.  You know what I mean?  To make a long story short, I spent the whole night attached to her left arm - I was scared to even go the bathroom by myself.

Anyway, we were sitting on the couch watching TV when all of a sudden her cat jumped up and started hissing and pawing the air.  My friend said the cat did that when "spirits entered the room."  Um!  I wasn't happy about having to spend the evening with my friend and the "spirits."  Call me crazy but I like to communicate with people who are still in the land of the living.  Needless to say, I never went back to her house.

Now that I think about it, she suffered from depression, anxiety, body dismorphia (sp), etc.  I bet it all stemmed from her "evil" home.  I would be the same way if I had to live there.  I get creeped out just thinking about that night.

My ex was so freaked out by the whole thing he never would have anything to do with the cat..so I KNOW he did not take him...in fact I asked him and he said HELL NO!!   I don't want that devil cat!!!  So who knows.  People have told me it was my grandpa looking after me..but I try to write it off as one of those things you can never explain.

And as far as cats hissing and pawing...the cat I have now does that all the time..and it freakes me out....esp when he just sits and stares at NOTHING at all....like he is seeing something I don't ( or can't) see.....makes you wonder!!!!! :o :o

Aww, I'm so sorry to hear about your dog, Ginger.  I know how hard it is to lose a pet you love.

What an awesome dream.  I've often wondered if there was a special place for animals when they died.

I am a total animal lover.  It's a shame to say this, but sometimes I love animals more than humans.  Animals are so innocent and defenseless.  I really hope there's a place for them when they die...especially if they were mistreated when they were alive.

About 4 months after our son Blaine was killed, I was out in the music room and my son Paul was in the back room of the house, watching television.  My wife was alone in the front of the house, also watching TV and nobody else was home.  She said she heard a whisper say "Mom" and it came from the kitchen, by the window.  She asked Paul if he had said anything and he said he hadn't.  We believe it was Blaines way of telling her he was alright  :'(

As previously related on the 80's page I have heard and seen  ghosts at a friend of mines house, scared me silly I must say.I have been to a couple of houses where there has been a definate atmosphere and I was happier out of them.I too believe animals are more sensitive to these things, and yes there is nothing worse than when a cat suddenly sits bolt upright and stares fixedly at a point just behind you with huge eyes!!

I have had two experiences, one involving a ghost, the other involving an angel. After my grandfather died, we moved in with my grandmother. One night, I was sleeping on the floor in the living room, and I woke up in the middle of the night. I was facing the fireplace, which was across from the kitchen. I looked at the fireplace (which had glass doors on it), and I saw my grandfather. He looked like he was standing in the kitchen. So I turned and looked in the kitchen and no one was there. I wasn't scared though, I felt real peaceful, like my grandfather was watching out for me. Incidentally, my grandmother's house is like 500 feet away from the cemetery where my grandfather was buried. The other experience with the angel can be found here, if you're interested: http://www.paranormal.about.com/library/blstory_march01_10.htm

Whoa, Jessica! Cool story!

How very timely that this subject has come up, because I'm having some strange experiences right now...

I keep hearing the front door opening, and somebody walking up my stairs...when there is nobody but me home, and there is no chance anyone else being there....(Hub's at work, kid at school)...I call out "who's there?" but nobody is....it has just started happening in the last 2 weeks or so...

It happenes even when I have the front door locked....

On a different note, I also believe our pets and small children (Not mutually exclusice, understand!) can see things adults cannot...or at least they are more sensetive than most of us...

My daughter, who is now 8, would just lay on our floor and stare at this one spot low near our baseboard when she was a baby.  There was nothing, and I mean nothing there!
When she was a little older, say 3, we would be at my friends house, and she would stand at the doorway of my friend's bathroom and "talk" with somebody...she would never say who, but when my friend would ask, "who are you talking to?" she would just point in the bathroom....,gave my bud the willies!

I definitely agree with you on that, Banasy! Sometimes my dog will scare the heck out of our family by just sitting in the living room, following something (that we can't see) around the room with his eyes! He also does this in my room :o. Also, when my sister was younger (and even recently), she has had encounters with ghosts. I'll let her tell them when she gets home from school. Her stories are much more freakier than mine!

Dogs (and cats) do that a lot!  I've had both, and when they do that, it's a little freaky...

You two must come from a "gifted" or "sensetive" family...bring the tales on!!! Real life is so much better than Stephen King!

We might be more sensitive to "the other side" because we tend to believe in it more than other people. I'm sure you know how some people get if you bring up the paranormal. :)

Yes, I do!  That's why I was hesitant to bring up the noises I have been hearing in my house lately...I am afraid no one will believe me!

I also have heard coughing in the computer room downstairs (It used to be my son's bedroom)...it sounds just like the way he used to cough...and I used to hear his bedroom door open and close (it's a very distinctive sound), but I haven't heard anything for a long time...which is why it is perplexing to me to suddenly start hearing things again...

Or maybe I'm insane.  Tha'ts what my hub would think if I told him any of this!!!! :D

Ok!!! A subject I can sink my teeth into!  Prepare to be freaked out (or if you're a non-believer, just amused).

My cat will often sit and stare at nothing.  Sometimes he will look like he's hunting something, but there is nothing there. Once in a while, it will look like he's just playing, but none of his toys are in the room.  My sister-in-law, who is a witch, told me that he does this because animals, and cats especially, can "see" into the other world.  That is they can see good and evil spirits, angels, fairies, and sprites.  When the cat is "hunting" or "fighting", he is trying to drive out the evil or malicious spirits.  When he is just acting like a goofball, he is playing with mischeivous (but other wise harmless) spirits.

The house I was born in had a ghost or spirit.  When I was very young, I could constantly hear footsteps walking back and forth across my bedroom.  My mom and dad tried to tell me it was just the clanking of the radiator, but I would have none of it.  One nignt, my grandmother was baby-sitting and I was giving her a hard time about going to bed. I was afraid of the footsteps.  My grandmother told me not to worry, that it was only "the lady" and she was walking up and down to put the baby to sleep.  I felt a lot better after that, and sometimes if I woke up in the middle of the night, I could sort of see her.  She had long, loose hair, and an ankle-length dress.  Sometimes the footsteps would come over to my bed and just stop, and I imagined that her baby was finally asleep.

When I was 13, we had moved to a different house, but that one had a poltergiest or "something".  Our landlady had a name for it in Gaelic, but I can't remember the word she used.  One night, after she had finished washing the dishes, she went to the back door to let her two dogs out for a last minute run. She was maybe ten feet from the kitchen sink.  Her kids were in the living room, at the other end of the house.  No one was near the kitchen, but there was suddenly a humongous crash.  All the silverware had been dumped onto the kitchen floor, on the FAR side of the room.  Several pieces that had been placed in the drainer under the dishes were in the pile, but none of the plates, cups or bowls had been disturbed.  No one could explain how the silverware had gotten so far, with no one in the room.

Also when I was thirteen years old, I had a really bad dream that came true.  There were two boys in our circle of friends that I liked.  One I had a crush on, and the other was like an extra brother.  One night, I dreamed they were on an old-fashioned wooden ship at sea.  There was a storm, and the ship was in trouble, rolling and tipping.  The boy I had a crush on, Danny climbed up to the crow's nest in the dream.  He fell, and I saw his face covered in blood.  The other boy, Bobby, tried climbing up too, but he also fell back to the deck and broke his neck.

I woke up screaming at 1 am.

The next day, my best friend came upstairs to our apartment in tears.  I asked her what was wrong, and she told me that the two boys had died the night before in a very bad car crash.  Bobby died of a broken neck, and Danny had been thrown through the winshield, cutting his face beyond recognition.  The car had crashed at 2 am.

THAT scared the beejeebers out of me.  Then my brother, who is also a witch, told me how our great-grandmother had had "a touch of the sight", and that some of us might be also likewise gifted.

After I moved out of mom's place, I lived in an old building that had been a large and rather elegant hotel at the turn of the last century.  After I started working the night shift, I would always notice (on my nights off) that I could hear footsteps in the hall at about 2:30 am.  My doorknob was always rattled, and I could even see it turn.  Naturally, the door was locked, but it gave me the willies to think someone might be trying to get into my place while I was all alone.  I was even more frightened when one night, I watched for the "intruder" through my security peephole.  I saw no one.  Nothing.  But I did still see my doorknob turn, even though there was nobody there.

I mentioned it to a neighbor the next day, because I knew he was researching the history of the building.  He became very excited and asked me for all sorts of details.  He finally explained that during World War 1, there were security guards walking rounds through the hotel during the night, checking all the doors to make sure the guests were safe.  After trying all the doors on my floor, he would step into the service stairway, sit down against the wall and take a nap, until just before dawn.  He had been caught more than once, and was told if he was caught one more time he would lose his job.  They apparently hadn't fired him right away, because most of the other men were away at the war.

One night, he decided to chance taking a nap again.  He died in his sleep in the service stairs across the hall from my apartment door.

I've got chill bumps everywhere, Kat.
:o

Although I've never SEEN a spirit, I've definitely felt spirits before.  Sometimes I'll be sitting somewhere, and I'll feel something brush the back of my neck.  Whatever it is really freaks me out, but in a good way.  There've been times where I've been walking through my house and I feel like someone is watching me.  I don't necessarily think our house is haunted, but I get a weird feeling sometimes.  I'm not sure if I'm psyching myself out or if there really is a presence that my "sixth sense" is picking up.

I totally agree that animals AND small children can see things that we are unable to see.  For instance, a good friend of mine used to live out in the country.  She owned some horses and other farm animals.  One day someone she knew was interested in seeing one of her horses, so she brought him out to her field.  As soon as they got to the horses, the horses started freaking out when the man went near them.  She thought that was really odd since the horses had always been mild-mannered with everyone.  Come to find out, the man she brought out there was mixed up in all sorts of horrific crimes that no one knew about.  The horses knew before anyone else did.  Coincidence?

My cat always lays on my stomach when I'm watching TV.  Today she started looking at the wall above my head and her eyes started closing and opening really sweetly (you know that love look that cats get in their eyes?).  I guess she must've seen my guardian angel.  At least I hope that's what she saw.

Heres a second scenario that ive experienced...(I may have to put it in 2 or 3 posts to fit in).

When I was 14 tears old living in new Zealand, our family had regular contact with another family who had 3 sons. We used to all enjoy going places together, having barbeques together and sleep-overs at each others houses for us kids. They lived in a house which was very large and 2 storeyed. The ground floor was a bit gloomy and cooler - even in the summer, however the second floor was very large and spacious. The two older brothers (one about my age, and one a few years older) used to sleep in a bedroom downstairs, while the youngest brother and their parents slept on the top floor. It was whilst visting this house on many occasions that I experienced some truly haunting experiences.

One night, the four of us kids were sitting in their huge lounge, watching TV. Two of the brothers got up in an ad break to get a drink, leaving the younger kid and I. We were playing with their cats on the couch when we looked up and saw a fat black and white cat lumber from behind one settee, walk across the floor of the lounge and then disappear behind one of the stereo speakers next to the TV set. I said to my friend "is that Paddlefoot - your other cat?" - asking after a cat I knew they had but had never seen in any of my visits. Mark just looked at me and got up off the couch rather confused. The cat we were sitting with had become very still and was staring in the direction of the speakers, - its pupils widely dilated. Mark said "that's not our cat". We both stood up and crossed the room to corner this animal that we had seen take refuge behind the speaker, but obviously when we looked there was nothing to be found. I wasn't really freaked out at the time - more astonished that I had seen this animal as clear as day walk across the floor in front of us. It was not shrouded in mists or semi-transparent - it was as clear as my hand in front of my face.

The 3 boys used to talk of crazy experiences that they'd had in that home. Some of their tales haunted me and I became uneasy about staying there. Apparently their grandmother lived in one of the downstairs rooms (like a granny-flat), but she had later died there in her sleep. There were 2 doors leading into this room - one you had to pass on the way to their bedroom, and another leading from their bedroom. The only thing to suggest she had been there was her old rocking chair at the back of the room. One night the middle brother said he had gone downstairs to his room and had passed the doorway to the granny flat. He recalls glancing into the blackness as he passed and saw a hazy white shape in there. He stopped in the doorway and watched aghast as a hideous sight approached him. He said he first saw the outline of a white t-shirt (though it were being worn by somebody) moving towards him. As this apparition emerged from the gloom, he saw two white upturned palms in front of it with the 'heel' of the palm pointing at him, and the fingers tipped back toward the blackness. When he saw this running at him, he screamed and flew up the stairs to relay the tale to his family. They could see he was very upset, so upon investigating the downstairs level (which was tightly locked for the night) they found nothing.

(continued)...

When I was told this, I loathed sleeping on the floor of the boys room between their 2 beds - my feet facing the doorway to this woman's black room. I NEVER looked into the darkened room if I could help it - it always gave me a shiver as I passed, but on one occasion as I shot a fleeting glance into the room and thought I saw the hairline of an elderly woman sitting in the chair. The light coming through the window from the neighbours back verandah light outlined her figure - her hair was thinning to the point of baldness. I could not see her face, but in the moment I walked past and witnessed this, I felt as though she were just sitting as she would have done years earlier in her room. It startled me and I felt an insane rush of panic consume me, but in a following visit, I was still yet to experience the shock of my life...

I had let my family know how I was not enjoying my trips to these people's home - least of all staying over, and as a result the frequency with which we visited dwindled somewhat. On the last occasion I visited, the night passed without any problems - it was in the light of day I was haunted within an inch of my sanity.

The youngest brother Mark woke me up as the rest of the family were leaving the house to run errands. The parents took the older boys to soccer practice and left Mark and I alone. It was a bright and sunny spring morning as we watched some TV for a while and decided to go and make some breakfast. We stood in their large open-plan kitchen completely alone, looking out the kitchen windows as we poured cereal into our breakfast bowls. We were chattering about all kinds of stuff as we added milk to the cereal, and then we opened the sugar bowl. I poured a tablespoon of sugar on my cereal and began spooning even more onto the meal. Mark stood to my left at my side and waited for me to finish up so he could do the same.
That precise moment we both heard a loud woman's voice angrily proclaim "NOOO!" from within the kitchen. We had no sooner heard the voice when I felt two hard and sharp tugs on the back of my t-shirt as though someone were violently trying to get my attention. Mark said he saw the neckline of my t-shirt jump twice upward violently out of the corner of his eye - suggestive of the force of which my shirt was being yanked down at the back.
We looked at each other and screamed like crazy and flew through the house, down the stairs and outside. We ran for about 1/2 a kilometre - the 2 of us in tears and absolutely hysterical! Through his tears - Mark said he recognised the woman's voice as his grandmother's. This chilled me even further to the bone. We sat on the kerb of the road in the sun for 3 hours until his parents drove up the street. When we relayed the story and told them of what we were doing at the time, they made it known to me that the old woman had passed away downstairs due to diabetes-related illnesses.

Years later I learned that we have a strong line of diabetics in my own family. I felt this explained this woman's loud and physical attempt to stop me from filling my cereal bowl with sugar. Now as an adult, I personally do not suffer from diabetes, but I experience a half-expectant chill even now when I add sugar to anything.
