Subject: Isn't it a bit too early for "Devil's Night?"
For those of you who haven't seen the movie "The Crow", Devil's night is the night before Halloween, when the local gangs burned down abandoned (and sometimes not abandoned) buildings. Mostly because the owners had offended the gangs' leaders in some way.
This morning on the way to work, traffice was jammed up because a dry cleaner's shop burned down early this morning. Nobody was hurt, as far as I know, but it was still burning as I was trying to get through the area.
When I was almost to work, traffic jammed up again. This time it was an apartment building on fire.
Just before lunch, the fire department showed up to a small fire in the business half a block away from us. They are an auto-mechanic's shop, so there are quite a few oily rags to make things worse.
I just got back into the office from the roof of our building. I had no sooner got back from luch, when the fire trucks arrived again. This time it was a house, next door to the office. We all went up on the roof to watch. Someone was barbecuing lunch on their back porch, and sparks caught on to the side of the building (it is a wood-frame house).
Again, no one was hurt, but I'm beginning to wonder: What is going on today??
Has anything like this happened to any of you? I've gotten absolutely nothing done today..... ::)

I JUST watched "The Crow" about a week ago...weird!
Anyway, that's odd that so many fires were started today. I'm sure they're all just strange coincidences. I don't think May 7 has any special Satanic significance - of course I don't know that much about Satanic rituals.
Besides, a man lighting his house on fire during a BBQ seems innocent enough, right? Hmmm, I wonder how much insurance he had on his house?!?

A couple days ago, two major fires occured, including an apartment building.

Funny you should mention insurance. My company just got a bunch of quotes for a new fire insurance policy. They are making us change a few minor things (like exactly where the fire extinguishers are), but now everyone is joking about the insurance company "making us an offer we can't refuse" for "protection". ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
As far as I can tell they are just odd coincidences, too. But then again, one of our former customers was written up in the newspaper yesterday for having "suspicious business dealings" with organized crime. :P

Your work place sounds exciting...almost like a soap opera. Which SO does it most closely resemble?
Subject: Re: Isn't it a bit too early for "Devil's Night?"
I don't watch many of the daytime soaps, so I can't say for sure, but I am reminded a lot of the Sitcom Soap.
Lotsa laffs, a few nuts, and at least one guy who can seem to turn invisible (he's never around when you want him). ;D ;D

In Southern Cal, we'd call this "normal." Course the fires are usually controlled in the grassy foothills.

Quick Draw McGraw! Actually, he never left, it was all an elaborate plot set up by, oh yeah, the penguins. Fortunately they were foiled.

Talking of penguins,I wonder if any of those little black and white critters were seen in the area of the fires......
