Subject: Songs You'd Cover

I believe this was a topic before the hack. If you had a cover band, what songs would you cover?

I'll add some for me later.

I remember this thread. The songs I would cover would be part of a gimmick in which the band would play one at the end of a gig. Usually, the songs we'd cover are minimalist, slow type of songs, to add a lasting effect for the crowd (small or big). Here are some of the songs I would choose to cover:

1. "In A Manner Of Speaking" by Tuxedomoon.
-I love the effect of the eerie whistling in the background. Very sad and melancholy (think: "Winds Of Change").

2. "Ashitaga Tsuki" by ?
-I would either sing a translation of it ("I Will Love Tomorrow") or sing it in the original Japanese (I actually know the lyric pronounciation of it). Maybe do a Spanish rendition of it. Again, this song follows the format of being minimalist and melancholy (sounds like a lullaby).

3. "No Words" by Clan Of Xymox.
-The demo version of this song sounds like the type that I would love to cover.

4. "Somebody" by Depeche Mode.
   -Piano, deep breaths and sighs.

5. "Asleep" by The Smiths.
-Similar to "Somebody" in sound. Impossible to emulate the master.

6. "Pale Shelter" and "Mad World" by Tears For Fears
-Very oversynthy that could be furthered minimalized into depressynthy...

Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler....I love this song, and I think it would be fun.  Might not be so fun for those listening though.  :P ;)

"Somebody" and "Question of Lust"--Depeche Mode

"Stay on These Roads", "Dark is the Night for All", "The Living Daylights", "Waiting for Her"--a-ha

"Child's Play", "Everything"--When in Rome

"Drama!"--Erasure

"In the End"--Linkin' Park (I always thought the rap should be repeated during the closing refrain)

"Forever Young"--Alphaville

ANything linkin park (I am a big fan)

"in the end" is sooo... sad it makes you think about life
"One Step Closer" but the acoustic version because it's a lot slower and you don't have to scream the lyrics like they do with all the electric crap (I know I've done it)
"My December" this is such a beautiful song very meloncholy

those are my favorites that make you think

"Hallowed be thy name", "Como Esta Amigo" by Iron Maiden (the second one is easier becuase it's Blaze rather than Bruce who sings it)

"Wonderwall" by Oasis (though I do have a tendency to sing the wrong words)

"Blockbuster" by the Sweet (hell on the throat, but great fun)

Always wanted to do the Meat Loaf part of "Deadringer for Love", but never found someone to do the female part.

Songs I'd cover? They may have changed from last time, but here goes for a current list of songs that I could manage to cover

Living On A Prayer - Jon Bon Jovi
Steal My Sunshine - Len
Rocking In The Free World - Neil Young (got a recording of me doing this one somewhere)

On The Wings Of A Nightingale - written Sir Paul McC MBE OBE, recorded by The Ev's
Gotta include a Beach Boys track, and since me and my brothers do a mean Country Air, it'd have to be this one.

I have several imaginary bands.  In one of them, we end every set with a cover of a 90's r&b/hiphop hit:

Boyz II Men - End of the Road
Mariah Carey - Dreamlover
Coolio - Fantastic Voyage
Naughty by Nature - OPP
House of Pain - Jump Around
Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre - Nuthin' but a G Thang
Snoop Dogg - What's My Name
Warren G. - Regulate
LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out
De La Soul - Ring Ring Ring (Ha Ha Hey)
Busta Rhymes - Wooha!!  Got You All in Check!
A Tribe Called Quest - Scenario
Eminem - Without Me
Beastie Boys - Root Down

I can also cover several songs by myself on my keyboard.  (My piano based version of "Man in the Box" is not to be missed.)  Other songs I can play and sing at the same time:

Ben Folds Five - Philosophy (among many other songs from this band)
Journey - Don't Stop Believin'
The Vapors - Turning Japanese
Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me
The Pretenders - Back on the Chain Gang
Van Halen - Jump
Rocky Horror Picture Show - The Time Warp
The Replacements - Can't Hardly Wait
Nirvana - All Apologies
Blur - Charmless Man

If I had to narrow it down to a band, they would indefinitly have to play a Smiths song.

"Born Of Frustration" - James
"Run" and "Heavy" - Collective Soul (damn, if I could play a guitar, the killer riff in "Heavy" would be mine!)
"Fall At Your Feet" - Crowded House
"Indigo Eyes" and "Cuts You Up" - Peter Murphy
"Say Hello 2 Heaven" - Temple Of The Dog
"Avalon" - Bryan Ferry + Roxy Music
"Time Stand Still" - Rush

Avenging Annie -- Andy Pratt
