Subject: Does anyone still use Napster?
Me and my friend were discussing Napster and stuff like that the other day, and he suggested that there was no chance that anyone would care any more because nobody actually uses it. Is this true? Do you still have an account with Napster? And, more importantly, from a personal point of view, is it any good any more?

Napster bites. I believe my account with it is still active, but I won't touch it now. What's the point? You can't find anything, no one's using it, and with the filtering in place, you can't even FIND anything, because people have so garbled the names of everything.
I long for a return to Napster, though. I had a MUCH easier time finding songs through Napster than anything else. I like Morpheus, but with them adding in Video, files, etc, you don't find the music selection you did with napster.
If Napster were to move to a country where they could avoid the copyright crap, and start up like they used to be, I would immediately rejoin. But not like it is now.

Make sure you terminate your account, because I think it still charges per month if you don't use it, right?

I've still got a copy somewhere of the first Napster that I downloaded, Napster 7. I think I should delete that one too, JIC

Try WinMX.com...it is just like Napster, but free....pretty much same format too!!

How are they going to charge me? I signed up back when it was free, and unless they terminated EVERY acount that was made previously, which I don't know if they did, it's still active. But I never gave any details on that account for payment. Who they going to bill?

That is one question that cannot possibly be answered. I don't see how they can keep a track on so many tens of thousands of users, just for some extremely slow download.

I guess the easiest way is to say... "They made us download 10.3, and then they warned us that for the next program they made - 10.4 - you would have to pay for installation and up-keep" as far as I'm aware.

actually, i heard it was so much per download...that sucks if you have to pay for more than that though, I dont really care about the search, I just like the way the songlist is set up...I was planning on using that instead of MusicMatch... -- Junior

If I still had Napster, I probably would no longer download off it, as I had to go without downloading for at least four months straight at one point. The only half useful thing about Napster by the time I got rid of it were the chat-rooms.
