A Saudi restaurant has started fining diners if they order more than they can eat.

Fahad Al Anezi, owner of the Marmar Restaurant in the city of Dammam, said he wanted to avoid wasting food.

He also wanted to encourage customers to be less extravagant with their orders, reports Gulf News.

"There are many clients who make large orders in order to impress the people around them and boost their social prestige," he said.

Diners were made to pay an extra charge which was decided depending on how much food they left, he added.

what if the food was left over because the meal was no good?

They've already paid for the food, so you pay twice as much for what you don't eat?  How about just giving smaller portions.  There isn't anything I hate more than going into a restaurant that piles food on a plate like it is just so much slop, and when they do pile it on your plate it usually does take like slop, thinking they are making up for quality with quantity.

Are you still charged for the gravy stains on the plate?

I took it to mean over ordering... ie ordering one of everything on the menu but only eating some of the food.

I agree with you though, if you've already paid for the food then who cares if you leave it or not.  The manager/owner or whatever, if he cares about the waste should raise his prices, package up whats left and give it to the homeless man at his back door or get over it!

I usually eat a quarter of it then give up, my stomach feels so heavy!

That is too much for me for one eating session, but I will give a go.

of that meal I would skip whatever that white blob is in the center of the burger.... and I would skip the onions. The lettuce and tomato I would eat separately!  then I'd add ketchup and mayo!!! yum!
