Subject: Mum held hostage over ironing
Written By: Philip Eno on 07/12/10 at 1:05 pm
A US man has been arrested for taking his mother hostage at gunpoint for six hours after she refused to do his ironing.
Robert Edward Tyrrell Jr, 29, of Villa Rica, Georgia, is facing charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment.
Sergeant Marc Griffith, of Carroll County Sheriff's Office in Georgia said that the man, who lives with his parents, insisted doing the ironing was "woman's work".
"Mama finally said, "I'm not ironing your clothes," and he went cuckoo on her," Sgt Griffith told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Tyrell pulled out a gun, took his mother's keys and mobile phone, and refused to let her leave the house, he added.
The 51-year-old mother eventually managed to escape, and went to a police station. She was unharmed in the incident.
Deputies were dispatched to the home where Tyrrell surrendered without incident. Tyrrell is due in court later this month.

Can't wait for the cross-examination.
Your mother refuses to iron your laundry.
a) I'd just let it slide, because if, at age 29, I'm still living with my mom and think that ironing is women's work, the wrinkles in my shirts aren't the main reason why I'm not getting any.
b) I'd go to the dry cleaner's, because laundry is immigrants' work.
c) Are you testing to see if I'm a replicant, a misogynist or a mama's boy?
d) My mother? Let me tell you about my mother.

It's always d), isn't it? More human than human, indeed.

You could have learned how to iron and fold in one hour -- instead you spend six holding your mother at gunpoint? This is not an efficient use of your time, son. Not to mention you poor mum!
I sentence you to 90 days of living with Bubba, who will teach you to iron, fold, toss salad, and a hundred household chores!

All his moments will be lost like tears, tears in the shower.

It might be beneficial in post-release life to know how to toss salad.
