I couldn't find a thread for this year. I went through about 25 pages of threads and I think I saw one for every other year.

That's very odd. There was one created in 2013...but now it seems to have mysteriously disappeared?! ???

Here's the archived edition: http://www.inthe00s.com/archive/inthe90s/smf/1383239627.shtml

But when I clicked the "Check for new replies..." link, I expected to get to that original thread...but apparently it's gone. :o I wonder why??

And I know I contributed to it. For example:

Here is a Jackson 5 cover by a group from Vancouver.  The blonde girl is the daughter of Bill Henderson, the lead singer for Chilliwack.  Every country had their own version of a Bananarama type girl group.  America had Expose.  Canada had West End Girls...

Here is The One And Only, written by Nik Kershaw and recorded by Chesney Hawkes.  In the UK, this was the theme song to a film called Buddy's Song starring Hawkes and Roger Daltrey.  In the US and Canada, it was the theme song to the Michael J. Fox film Doc Hollywood.  Different music videos were filmed for each.  It was not Hawkes' only hit in the UK, but it left him a one hit wonder in the US and Canada

Here is Life Is A Highway by Tom Cochrane.  Wait, that song is from 1992, so why am I talking about it in a 1991 thread?
It was originally released in Canada in September of 1991, where it peaked at #1 in late November.  It wouldn't be until 1992 when this song would chart in most of the rest of the world.

For many people, this was an introduction for Tom Cochrane, but in Canada, he had already been well-known in the 80s as lead singer for a band called Red Rider.  At the 1992 Juno Award (Canada's version of the Grammy) ceremonies, Tom won Songwriter of the Year, Male Vocalist of the Year and Single of the Year for this song, and the album (Mad Mad World) that it appears on won Album of the Year.  It also received a 1992 Grammy nomination for Male Rock Performance of the Year

The video for that song is one of my earliest memories of a bonus track on a VHS tape.  It appears after the credits rolled through on the VHS of Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves.  It's a fun one to sing karaoke to

I knew it was from that soundtrack. But I also remember it was a big hit on the charts. And still one I enjoy listening to.

I have been trying to reconstruct the old thread that mysteriously disappeared (and I have a link to the archived version in my first reply up above). And I remember this particular song being mentioned on there.

In 1990, Celine Dion released her English language debut album called Unison and from it came 5 singles.  The 5th one titled Have A Heart was released in July of 1991, went on to peak at #26 in Canada and is a cover of an R&B song from 1987 called Just Have A Heart by Angela Clemmons.

Celine actually first covered it in 1987 in French under the title Partout Je Te Vois.  At the time, she did not speak English, but wanted to learn it to further develop her career, so she memorized the lyrics and performed it in English that year at the Juno Awards.  Quite an impressive performance for someone who basically had no idea what she was singing

The Unison album started recording in 1989, so having learned English in just 2 short years is nothing short of Amazing.  I wish I could learn a 2nd language that fast

I liked their song called The Globe, which was released later in 1991 and was playing on the radio in the early part of 1992. That song sampled "Should I Stay or Should I Go" from when he was with The Clash.

"Beauty and the Beast" is a song written by lyricist Howard Ashman and composer Alan Menken for the Disney animated feature film Beauty and the Beast (1991). The film's theme song, the Broadway-inspired ballad was first recorded by British-American actress Angela Lansbury in her role as the voice of the character Mrs. Potts. The song has won several awards. The song garnered the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song at the 49th Golden Globe Awards in January 1992. The following March, "Beauty and the Beast" won the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 64th Academy Awards.
