Subject: 1998

Ah, 1998. Pol Pot died back then, so I love it by default.

This is a thread dedicated to the year in full.

What was the culture like?

I got married!  :D  Our wedding colors were teal and peach.  Weddings had started to get really expensive, moreso than in prior decades.  Having a morning wedding saved us $$$.

As I recall it was still a good time for air travel, as 9/11 hadn't happened yet.  Flying could actually be pleasant!

It was still the era of pre-internet, though not for long.  (Yes, there was indeed internet; it wasn't out to the masses like now, though.  Many people had e-mail then, though - most often on AOL.  Dial-up was common.)  Mobile phones were becoming somewhat more available but they were basically all dumb phones.

Flat screen TVs were barely on the scene; they were still quite pricey then.  A lot of people still had the huge room-hogging TVs.  Some, like me, had old-fashioned style CRT TVs that fit inside a cabinet with glass or retractable doors.

At that time vinyl was kinda dead.  Cassettes were still popular, but CDs probably were the most popular music delivery format.

Can't speak much to current 1998 TV or music.  I leave that to the next contributor.

As for me, it was the year I graduated from high school. Making that big transition to college was quite memorable for me.

For me it was the year before that I graduated (1997) but 1998 was also pretty transitional in my life. In many ways it was with tough adjustments which is why I don't particularly have fond memories of that year. 1999 was a lot better for me.

So you were a year ahead of me? Awesome.
