Subject: 1994 and 1996
Written By: 90s Guy on 06/19/21 at 8:36 am
Let's say you were to spend, a week, among the teen/youth culture of the years 1994 and 1996, respectively. Let's go with say, a week in October 1994, and a week in April or May 1996.
What would be the same between the two years, what would be different?
Pop culture does change yearly, from year to year; so what would the differences be?

Since the times you listed are only a year and a half apart, not a whole lot is different. You still have alternative rock and gangsta rap, only less grunge in '96. Also the same TV shows are popular for the most part. Now 1996 and 1998 even in the same months would be completely different.

This seems to be veering dangerously close to decadology.

I still feel like there would be differences, though. Every single year of the 90s was distinct, pop culture moved MUCH faster than today. Hence why I asked. They're two years I remember but since I was a child didn't get to experience fully. I do remember they had different vibes, but I'd like to know exactly what was different.

Honestly you can say this about ANY years...1967 and 1969, 1972 and 1974, 1980 and 1983, etc, etc, etc up until that certain point when culture stopped moving so fast. That's exactly why it's decadology.

Teen and youth culture was mine in the 90s because I was a teen then. Here's what I think.
The main difference would be that Grunge music, and fashion was over in 1996. Also, in 1994 we didn't have access to the online world. When compared to 1996, we had the World Wide Web, America Online, and other similar early internet services. I think these are the main differences.
