Subject: What are Some ‘Very Early 90s’ Things?

I’ll start:
Candace Cameron (star of “Full House”) wearing a “In Living Color” shirt in 1991 :

On the subject of “In Living Color”, I’ll add that Jim Carey once played the part of Pee Wee Herman in a sketch about his scandal.

“Pee Wee’s Playhouse” was a weird show when it was on during its first run to us Xennials, but the toys were awesome. During the early 90s, remaining early XYer kid culture from the 80s was on its way out. This moment on “In Living Color” was ‘perfectly early 90s’ because “ILC” was the new show that Boomers, Joneses, Xers, XYers, and some Yers watched and the XXX movie scandal affected XYers the worst. It was interesting to watch this all at once when it aired.
The Yo! Yogi Happy Meal Toys (1992)

In the future, when Alphas ask how teens and pre-teens dressed in the early 90s, XYers should point to this set of Happy Meal toys. For those that don’t know, “Yo! Yogi” was first mentioned on “The Arsenio Hall Show” (the biggest show of the early 90s) in the fall of 1991. Everything about “Yo! Yogi” was early 90s from the “Yo! MTV Raps” title to the pop culture references (Magilla Ice) and there’s a lot to love with this set of toys. Oversized shirts are there (Boo Boo), ringer long sleeve shirts are seen (Huckleberry), Oakley razor blades (Yogi Bear), and colored cropped jean jackets with a biker shorts dress combination under it (Cindy Bear). I imagine these rare Happy Meal toys are to people who love the early 90s what “Stranger Things” toys are folks who love the 1980s. There will never be any other “Yo! Yogi” toys like this. The Bend-Ems and wind-ups from this time (early 1992) were great as well, but these take the cake moreso than those do. The only thing that could make this set better was if there was a Ranger Smith in Cosby sweater (he never wore one in the cartoon). Otherwise, these were perfect then and still are today.
I guess this goes here too:

Plucky Duck (the then new cartoon character that Yers loved) with an Immature Radioactive Samurai Slugs (parody of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” whom XYers enjoyed then) comic in his hand. Today, “Tiny Toon Adventures” is best remembered for the theme being on a season 4 episode of “Seinfeld”.
What were some images and trivia from 1990 to 1992 that would give anyone the idea of what living in the early 90s was like?

Geez Louise, everything about this video:

After one view of “Do the Bart, Man”, you’ll swear you’ve never seen anything ‘more early 90s’ in your life!!!! :o
That was until we saw this one…
Michael Jackson - Black or White (1991)

Not to mention, Macaulay and Michael pictures from this time are ‘pretty early 90s’:

How cool is that? Both Michaels in one picture?

This music video:
Rod Stewart - The Motown Song (1991)
vqcoPXFDnqw
The rhythm to this song reminds me of “Every Heartbeat” by Amy Grant from around that time. Elton John, Madonna, MC Hammer, Sinead O Connor, and Vanilla Ice all appear in the video. How ‘very early 90s’ of the video writers.
This book:

For anyone who wasn’t alive in the early 90s, core and late Xennials were not quite young adults yet at this point in the 90s. XY kid culture was still everywhere in America and abroad, but it was mixed in with new Yer kid culture. Yer kid culture did not really become a strong force in the early 90s until the fall of 1992. Otherwise, 1990 to early 1992 belonged to XYers pretty much and this book is a great reminder of that. ;D
This image of Jason Zimbler as Ferguson:
First picture in this Tumblr-https://vvinifredsanderson.tumblr.com/post/55475885697
In the middle part of the early 90s, some Americans were growing tired of the early 90s. Ferguson was Clarissa Darling’s annoying little brother on “Clarissa Explains It All” from the early to mid 1990s. I’m not entirely sure what the writers were doing by having Ferguson wear a “Dan Quayle Fan” straw hat, but seeing how he was the most hated character on the show, it seemed like a poke at Republicans. Nonetheless, it’s ‘early 90s’ because Quayle was Vice President at the time of this new Nickelodeon show being on the air. “Clarissa Explains It All” appeared to be one of the most memorable pre-teen shows on Nickelodeon from 1989 to 1992, but none of them were on the level of “Rugrats” or “Ren and Stimpy” in the 90s. Nonetheless, I had to add this here. It was far more ‘early 90s’ than Clarissa wearing a Keith Harring top and Sam Anders in a neon cap, Fanny pack, and store bought printed tie dye shirt.

The “Stuck On You Garfield” plush toy takes off shortly after they were released in 1987, so Playmates Toys makes their “TMNT” version in 1989 that makes it to shelves in 1990. In this ad, the suction cup TMNT plushes are alongside the old ones from the very late 80s. Totally early 90s!!!

The 1988 syndicated cartoon is referenced as the new movie is promoted. Another instance that gave away that we were in a time a little distant from the late 80s, but too far off like “TMNT 3” was.

One of the hottest teen stars of the early 90s, Neil Patrick Harris (NPH), wearing a “Dick Tracy” premiere shirt. In hindsight, the early 90s where when 1989 met 1992. Leftover “Dick Tracy” merchandise was everywhere from 1992 to sometime in the late 90s. How ‘early 90s’ of NPH to sport a “Dick Tracy” shirt. “Dick Tracy” wasn’t “Batman”, but who can forget how “Dick Tracy” was almost as successful as “Batman”.
These pictures of Mark Wahlberg as Marky Mark:

The Malcolm X shirt (think late 60s revival) and “Cross Colors” (again, tied to the late 60s revival in some way) and a new musical artist in one picture. The New York Yankees jersey in the second photo makes the photo ‘so early 90s’ to me.

This Mattel set:

Behold, the biggest new stars of the 1990s in America speaking Spanish (like we all did from the late 80s into the mid 90s), dressing like Batman (this was popular for boys to do from 1989 to 1998), skateboarding (the new resurrection of boarding was in the 80s to mid 90s), playing saxophone solos (like many artists did in the late 80s and early to mid 90s), and enjoying Mickey Mouse Playskool toys (80s and 90s thing, as far as I know). The Nelson figure was perfect for those of us that were diehard Simpsons fans in 1990. You can’t miss the sarcasm that Gen Xers loved in the 90s from this set either. These were the best action figures to be produced in the whole 90s from an XYer’s point of view. Sadly, “The Simpsons” shirts were more popular then. These were also in stores long after Turtlemania took hold of a many XYer and some early Yers (‘87 borns).

That’s right. People in the early 90s had the first “Jurassic Park” book. It became popular reading material for teenagers in the 1991 to 1992 TV season and then the mid 90s movie and merchandise was made in 1992.
Perhaps, the first “Jurassic Park” book was an early sign that the dinosaur fad of the mid 80s into the 90s would die out in the 90s. You best believe it was scary to “Dino Riders” collectors, “Cinnamon Dinosaur Grrrahams” munchers, and “Jim Henson’s Dinosaurs” watchers in the early 90s. Before the “Jurassic Park” movie (much more popular than the book), dinosaurs were like ET to alien fans, but after “JP”, you started seeing more evil or furious dinosaurs on TV and straight-to-VHS movies. What a time to be alive if you love dinosaurs! :D

McDonalds?
There were two promotions (in different months) in 1990 at Burger King (camping set and dolls) and a cup promotion at Pizza Hut in 1991.

I cannot place the precise year, but I do remember having figures from when "The Little Mermaid" was released.
