Subject: Summertime in 1991

Any guys or ladies out there who remember this song in its prime back in the early 90's? This is a song that really let you know that the 90's was a fun and exciting age for family time culture. This had to be the most lit and quintessential hip hop/R&B summer song of the early 90's.

I was 5 at the time. I vividly remember this song being everywhere. It was my favorite song by far that year.

I have so many memories of that Summer! One of my dearest memories is when I graduated Elementary School in June 1991.

Lucky you! :)
I transitioned from 5th to 6th grade in that summer, but the elementary school I attended went up thru 6th grade (as did most schools in the district). It was the following year when most of them made the switch.

I definitely don’t remember seeing that video or hearing that song in the summer of 1991, but ‘91 was the year when I first saw the intro to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

I didn't watch that show for the first time until after it went into syndication (that is, airing Monday-Friday on a particular channel).

I remember when Fresh Prince aired on Channel 4 in NYC.

That's probably your NBC affiliate.

I remember when Fresh Prince aired on Channel 4 in NYC.
The intro had the “NBC In Stereo Where Available” symbol at the bottom of the screen back then. The logo changed in ‘92. Those were the days.

On point, Summertime was an anthem. I went to school in Philly that year too, it was awesome.

“Summertime” was shown after one episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air in the spring of 1991, right?
I miss when music videos were shown after prime time shows. FOX was the head runner when it came to doing that in the early 90s.

The album cover for this single is very early 90s. It speaks to me as a Xennial. Black and neon forever!!!!

“Summertime” epitomized the early 90s when you think about it. Everyone was trying to fun and go to different vacation spots at that time. The last of the good days for people my age. :\'(

Part of the lighthearted and laid back side to the early 90s. That’s for sure. :)

Am I the only one who thinks "Summertime" sounds dated for a 1991 song. What I mean is it sounds more like it was released in 1985.
Just me?

First things first; Will Smith is a pop-rapper.
Secondly, “Summertime” was produced and released before August of 1991 (when hardcore rap was played on the radio).
It is possible that “Summertime” could sound like it was from the mid 80s to someone, but that’s because pop-rap was started in the 80s.

How is Summertime mid 80s? That song has more in common with the G-Funk rap songs of 93-96.

You can hear the G-Funk sound coming in there at times, but it’s a profanity free
pop-rap song.
