Guys, I think watching this show can help understand 90s pop culture and decadeology. Since, this spanned the whole decade, it is easy to spot the 80s ness and 00s ness of the 90s. Here's my take:
Pilot (1989-90): 90% 80s with a few 90s trends coming in (curtained hair/grunge); Jason Priestley himself told me when the pilot as well as episode 1 was shot. https://twitter.com/Jason_Priestley/status/955620572800561153
Season 1 (1990-91): 75% 80s with a few upcoming 90s trends (curtained hair/grunge)
Season 2 (1991-92): 80s/90s split
Season 3 (1992-93): 75% 90s with a few lingering 80s trends (mullets/permed hair)
Season 4 (1993-94): 90% 90s with a few minor lingering 80s trends (mullets/permed hair)
Season 5 (1994-95): 95% 90s with very few 80s trend (Steve's mullet)
Season 6 (1995-96): 100% 90s
Season 7 (1996-97): 100% 90s
Season 8 (1997-98): 95% 90s with a few upcoming 00s trends (spiky hair)
Season 9 (1998-99): 75% 90s with a few 00s trends (spiky hair)
Season 10 (1999-00): 60% 90s/40% 00s
