Subject: Do The 90s actually suck?

This was something I found from an old message board from google groups. I guess people back then hated the 90s like people today hate the 2010s today.

I try not to take people's comments too seriously. I remember back then that people on here hated the 00's, hating everything before 1999/2000. Then forward to now, most people hate anything before 2010, 2012, or whatever.
To me, I like the 2010's more than the 2000's decade, when it comes to pop culture.

Were you old enough(or even existed) to have experienced the 90s and then decide whether or not you like decade? Just curious.

Ok, cool. :) Just to let you know, it was an awesome decade! Well, that is aside from the disasters and deaths, and all of the bad events that happened in the 90s. Every decade has them.

I miss the '90s, even though I didn't get to experience all of it. :\'(
I remember a lot of people hated it back then and in the 2000s as well.

I only got to spend 5 months in the '90s and obviously I don't remember any of it. I wish that I got to experience the decade (particularly, 1990-1995).
BTW, is anyone watching CNN's miniseries on the '90s? I am and it's pretty good.

No the '90s were cool. The 2010s really suck! I mean how can anybody seriously like the 2010s, everything is so crappy right now. Every year gets worse!

I really like the 2010s! No offence, but Im starting to find it very tiring to see people like you constantly hating on this decade, because do you know what I bet in 15 years everyone's gonna be back on here wishing the /010s were back :). What makes you hate the 2010s?

Being a child of the 1990s I loved it but I also loved the 2000s. The 2010s has to be the worst decade in history.

The '90s saw a huge spike and growth in right wing militias made up of mostly middle aged White men who were completely angry at the federal government (1993 Waco siege & 1995 OKC Bombing). A lot of those right wing militias still exist and even more right wing militias have popped up because of Obama's presidency.
The most famous right wing militia today is the Oath Keepers who "protect" the US against "illegals and other enemies of America" ::). Most of these militia men are current and former U.S. military and law enforcement officers...it makes you wonder why?
Many of these right wing militia men (and women) are unsurprisingly racist.

I can understand why older GenXes hate the '90s. The '90s to them were what the '10s are to 80s borns like myself. The '90s started out as an extension of the late '80s, but evolved very quickly once hitting 1993. By 1999, we were in another world, with a new generation being the primary consumers of pop culture. Likewise, the '10s are that way for Millennials. We started off at peak Millennial culture. The early '10s were an extension of the '00s. We hit 2013 and things started changing very quickly. We are now at 2017 and it's like a completely different world compared to 2010.

Since I was born in March 1999, I only experienced roughly 9.5 months of the decade, meaning that I do not have any memories of the '90s. However, I definitely don't agree that the '90s sucked. The '90s are actually my favourite decade for popular culture. :)

I'm not gonna judge the 2010s until it hits 2023 but I will say this
1. People who think the 2010s are the worst...their opinion is the furthest thing from unique. It actually might even be evidence of how ordinary and inside the box their tastes, views, and perceptions are.
2. I like the 90s but they weren't all it was cracked up to be. People in the 90s moaned about "the 90s" maybe 3x as much as people moan about the 2010s now, which was annoying.

No, but I have uploaded actual footage off of CNN from various parts of the '90s, including most of an episode of Early Prime from 1997 along with most of an episode of Showbiz Today. Remember when CNN had it's cool jingle at the end of each half hour, followed by James Earl Jones "This is CNN" at the end of each break?
Sure, a lot of the contemporary culture didn't suit everyone, but so did the rock and roll of the '50s, the psychedelia and bubblegum of the '60s, the "idiot sitcoms" of the '70s and of course the disco music, and the hair metal, glossy synthpop, and early hip hop of the '80s. It's just a part of the generation gap. And of course, you could always buy classic movies, record off of Nick at Nite and later TV Land, and listen to the oldies stations to get your "good time" fix. But of course, the world isn't perfect and you need to accept defeat and/or tolerate in order to fit in, and venture out of the comfort zone at some point. I like the family movies, sitcoms, children's programming, video games, and SOME of the music, but that decade had very few, short-lived wars that didn't impede much apathy.

To me the 90's were the greatest years of my life. Why I say that is because those were my teen years. To be honest I wish I could go back to that decade. I remember the films, music, fashion, slang and events. The 90's were very colorful but dark at the same time. Its hard to believe that a new decade is upon us. Time surely flies by fast.

The 00s were the greatest years in my life. I loved my teens years but now it feels different. This decade alone I lost two of my uncles and my dog.

Or maybe it's because of how disturbing the Paris attacks were? Or the long and depressing string of police brutality reports? Or the rampant SJW culture that has people at wits end? Maybe not everyone's a fan of mumble trap or soft EDM and their destructive impact on (even underground) music. Maybe friggin ponies and painfully hipster meta humour is not everyone's goatmug of tea. Or the fun and groundedness being sucked out of watching Television/cartoons now. Or the impractical fashion. Or the soul sucking technology. Or the politics...

Same with me for the 2000s and 2010s, since we were both born at the beginning of those times! :)

The years 1993 to 1998 stunk to high heaven. They were a poor follow up to the early 1990s. Man am I glad those years are behind us.

I dunno, I guess it's nice to be a toddler and taking naps all-day, so '98 and '99 were fairly nice to me (despite the horrible time that was preschool at the end of '99) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Sometimes I really miss the groundedness of those years tho. Never have experienced anything quite like it since.

The 90s had good things and bad things. One of the good things I miss about the 90s was the attitude. It was very snarky towards and critical of pop culture, corporatism, suburbia, etc. Ever since the y2k era, all of that seems to have disappeared.
