Subject: Do you miss the edge of the Gen X culture?
Written By: nintieskid999 on 04/18/17 at 11:47 pm
I miss the edge Gen X brought to the 90s and even some of the 00s and love many of the songs Xers loved in the 80s.
I miss songs like this
iBBqjGd3fHQ
lYBIRHi5-o8
FNrQOUtXYOo
and the songs that weren't seen as edgy had so much emotion like this one:
AVYYpNaSs2Y
I feel so pissed these songs are gone and now we have music without any sense of feelings or realism

Yes.
Millennials girlified everything up in 1997 with Aqua, Hanson, and the Spice Girls.

I just miss the wholesomeness of Gen X culture. Millennial culture seems like it was trying harder than Gen X culture to be edgy, but in the process merely came off as much shallower.

I agree. A lot of it felt forced like they were trying to show more than ever without any purpose to it.

I mean compare anything today to this.

Yes I do. In fact, I wish that I was a Gen Xer (born in 1970).

I miss the music of my childhood so much. How do I stop resenting being a Millennial?

I don't know. I don't resent being a Millennial but I just would like to be a Gen Xer more.

Yeah, it was a good time to be alive. I miss it a lot! You should of posted more 80's songs, though. Less post-grunge, more new wave! 8) 8) 8) 8)

I love 80s through early 2000s the most. Basically the Xer period through the XY cusp period.

I combined them together. I like both 1983-1995 and 1996-2002. 8) The 80's and early-mid 90's will always be my favorite time, though.

I did as a child only to be left disappointed as I got older. I had a very good memory and was very immersed in that environment only for it to go away. I wonder how much this is true for other Millennials.

That music, video games, and TV continually got worse and less creative.

and not only that, the culture kept getting worse and worse. Movies were a lot better in the 80s and 90s than in the 00s. People also had far fewer conformist attitudes before 1999.

I wish I was born in 1974-1976. That would be the prime age to be an 80s kid and I could experience the 90s at an older age.

I know that I said that I was going to take a break from inthe00s, but I couldn't help but share a few Gen X songs which I like for their "edginess". "Love Rollercoaster" is about as 90s as you can get. :P

Not to get nitpikcy here, but I grew up listening to Creed, 311 and Live. Human Clay was one of my first albums. I consider those bands (especially Creed) to have more of an Early Y lean. Us Y2K kids had some edge to us too, now!

I think I see why most folks love Gen X culture. It was very edgy, and natural at the same time. Millennial culture, tries to be hard without the experience. That could change though since Trump is president. Time to rebel people! ;)
