No. I've only been in Chuck E. Cheese's, if you were talking about places like that.

Yes it was like Chuck E. Cheese. Discovery Zone was established in 1989 and shut down by 1999.

My childhood local McDonald’s had an arcade, N64s and the tunnels/slides/ball pits. Damn I need to make the 2 hour trek there ;D

If you were born in the early to mid 80s there's a chance you will remember it and if you were born in the late 80s to early 90s like me there might be a chance you'll remember it.

Well, it's not like I actually visited there if it close on my birth year.

My local McDonald's only had those Playplaces, which had slides and ball pits. They were pretty cool, but having video game consoles in a freakin' McDonald's sounds like a luxury.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1999. After that happened, all of their locations turned into Chuck E. Cheese restaurants.

Yeah, it's the same ones I talked about in the early 2000s kids thread. They existed in the late 1990s too!

I heard that it shutdown in 1999, so you'd have to be born in the 80's or beginning of the 90's to had experienced that place as a kid. Chuck-E-Cheeses was the place of my childhood I went to a few times, but when it comes to game rooms Dave & Busters reigns supreme! 8)

Damn. I guess they only had them at selected U.S. and Canadian locations during the late 90s/early 2000s.

Dave and Busters should have more locations in the United States. ;D

There are three Dave & Busters locations in Georgia. One of those is inside a mall.

Yeah, Discovery Zone was massive in the '90s. I remember seeing commercials for it all the time while watching Saturday morning/Weekday afternoon cartoons as a kid.
Unfortunately, the nearest Discovery Zone to me was up in Atlanta, which is a good 100 miles from where I live. Because of this, I sadly never got to go to DZ growing up. :(

It just looks like a typical playground/arcade zone from what I saw on one commercial. We have a lot of those places like that in New Jersey, so it's no big surprise why it got bankrupt in 1999.

I visited it in 1996 when I was 11 as part of a birthday party for my younger brother. Even though I was no longer a little kid, I still enjoyed it for the art it provided, and it was subdivided into the micro-zone for tots, the mini-zone for preschoolers/kindergartners, and the mega zone for grade schoolers. There was also a small arcade and a seating area. It seems though that once Discovery Zone went under, Chuck E. Cheese's upgraded their play area, while maintaining or slightly shrinking their arcade areas. If I'd make a revival, I'd design it where there are more hand-on activities that can make the experience more educational, which would fit the "Discovery" name well. For example, the physics of sliding down or the force when pulling a bunch of blocks.

So, it was basically like Chuck E. Cheese's, except there was more than two zones in the building? All right. :P
