Here's the top ten video games of the '90s according to G4's 100 Greatest Video Games of All Time. Share your thoughts on it.

1. Sonic The Hedgehog (Genesis)
2. Super Mario 3 (NES)
3. Mortal Kombat II (ARCADE)
4. Final Fantasy VII (PS1)
5. Legend of Zelda Ocarina of TIme (N64)
6. Tomb Raider (PS1)
7. Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
8. Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past (SNES)
9. Street Fighter II (Arcade)
10. Doom (PC)

Wolfenstein 3D in 1992 belongs in this discussion.
Ocarina of Time, Mario 64, Doom, and MYST are definitely among the best as well. Maybe add in Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles on the Genesis.
I think for the '90s, there needs to be a separate list for each ecosystem, be it PC, Nintendo, Sega, or PS1. Back then there weren't near as many cross-platform games and there are too many awesome ones on each platform to simplify it down to a Top 10 list.
The '90s also marked the transition from 2D video games to 3D games. I find it difficult to compare games from the 2D and 3D eras directly.
One more thing, Super Mario 3 came out in 1988. It's not a '90s game.

Mario 3 came out in America in February 1990.It was released in Japan in 1988.

It's nearly impossible to do this, since the '90s are unquestionably the greatest single decade for video games, but now that the gauntlet has been put down, I have no choice but to accept the challenge...

Whaaaat no PS1 and PC games? All of those are Nintendo!

I didn't have a PC growing up, so even though there are some great games from the '90s on that format that could certainly claim a place on any top 10 list (such as Doom, Half-Life, Myst, etc.) I sadly never got the chance to play any of them.
I did have one PS1 game on my list (FF7), but the majority are Super Nintendo titles because I've always been more of an "old school" 2D kind of guy when it comes to video games.

Sonic the Hedgehog and SMB3 are classics! I don't know too many people in this world who haven't played those.

That is something you may want to put on your bucket list. There's nothing like picking up that Genesis controller and giving Sonic the power to race against time.
