Subject: 1990s cars

Written By: Michael Dulin on 11/05/13 at 6:12 pm

What do you think of cars from the 1990s? I'm kind of surprised at how boxy a lot of them look, even the ones with curves tend to only be curved at the edges, the overall form of most 90s cars still has a squarish look to it. Cars from the early 90s seem almost vintage at this point, especially the models carried over or slightly modified from the 80s. My parents' old 1991 Plymouth Voyager minivan was clearly an artifact from another era.

Do you think they are built more or less sturdy and aerodynamic compared to cars of the 80s and cars of the past 14 years?

Early 90s cars were boxy, but later in the decade they started to look more round and aerodynamic.

My first car was a 1995 Fiat Punto, which was kinda rounded.

Yeah, a little bit. It looks dated compared to a new car but hardly junky. One big difference between 80s cars and 1991-92 models onwards though is the controls tend to look a lot more modern, and there is less likely to be woodgrain in the design anywhere.

yea I think cars still had that boxy unimaginative look up until 1995 or so when manufacturers got a bit more creative

for a while it was pretty much a Ford Taurus in every driveway in suburbia, before the great SUV run happened

I got my permit in 2000 and this was my first car, a 1991 accord. Got about a year out of it

It's funny how I look at pics of me as a kid in the early 90's and there were still late 70's cars parked everywhere on the streets. Folks still had them as their everyday drives.
