So I was browsing for new music around youtube when I stumbled upon this song right here... I hated it, but it did do me a wonderful favor.. it got a song from the 90's on the tip of my tongue. The song is very similar to this one up to the 20 second point, I remember the lyrics being something about the guy being to late to save her or rather? Seriously, if you can figure out what this song is you'll be my hero. I've been looking for it for months!!!

well, on that note I should add that it may not even be a 90's song, just that it was on the radio once in a while when I was a kid. I'd enjoy it quite a bit but I'd forget to get the name.. this is driving me nuts. :/

As I said, I can't stand the song I posted either... the video creeps me out enough. She gives Marilyn Manson a run for his money, but that frign song is just bugging the crap out of me. I can hear the tune in my head, but only barely.. ugh.

Her voice reminds me of a band called Catatonia, from the 90s.

Any more clues about the song you almost remember? Was the song with a female vocalist? Was she similar to the one in this video? If it was 1997, and it was a female vocalist, and the song had a piano as an instrument, my guess would be to start searching Tori Amos songs. She was one of the better known artists around that time, who used pianos and other percussion instruments, and would've likely had radio play in 1997.

Could it be Criminal by Fiona Apple? That was around 1997 and had a lot of piano that sounds similar to that song.
