Subject: The 1994 Problem
Written By: Tompiff on 08/26/11 at 9:02 pm
Last time I talked about 1994, I let my ego get the best of me, and I eulogizer for what I've done. I now accept that people born in 1994 like myself, aren't 90s kids, and 2000s kids also. I accept it no problem. I didn't live the whole decade of the 90s. All I ask is that I do not get kicked off the curb when it comes to the late 90s, I remember the late 90s well. I am not a 90s kid, but it does insult my intelligence when someone says that I didn't experience or remember the late 90s, or that I was in "diapers", I was in diapers until I was 7(2001/2002), but what does that mean? just because I wore diapers as a kid, doesn't mean I didn't remember anything or didn't enjoy music or movies or celebrities, I mean really... how does wearing diapers mean you can't remember anything. if that's the case, then I guess I didn't remember 2000-2002 huh? see how illogical that is? if I was a BABY in diapers then of course I wouldn't remember anything(I was a baby from 1994-1996, Toddler from 1996-1997, and kid from 1997-2005)
funny thing is, I actually changed my own diapers, starting at the age of 2, when my mother was pregnant.
too many moments in my life from 1997-1999 that just can't be forgotten about because another person says "You can't remember it"
so, give me your thoughts, give your thoughts in a respectful, un-condescending way. you could disagree or agree, doesn't matter. but before you give your thoughts, remember, I never said I'm a 90s kid, I do not remember 1990-1996, I remember and experienced life from 1997. so do not say "another guy trying to be cool saying he's a 90s kid." from my own words I say I am no 90s kid,
I consider myself a late 90s-early 2000s kid. it would be an insult to make me as if I didn't exist in the late 90s, also keep in mind that I grew up on MTV, nickelodeon/nick jr, cartoon network, and wrestling during those times. my outside life was with the family, and times by myself were with people I met. as a kid I never had friends, only people I met then never saw again.

I'm the same age, and honestly I rather pretend I don't remember the late 80s or early 90s(besides the Disney cartoons and movies...which kicked ass!). That era was so cheesy and lame.
John, you were 10 in 2004, let it go please.

I'm from '91 and I consider myself a kid of the new millennium/ turn of the century kid. That's pretty cool if you ask me. I remember the 90s pretty well, (Mostly '96- '99) but I did most of my growing up in the 00s, not the 90s. By the time I noticed pop culture it was already 1999 or 2000. My brother was born in 1985 and he remembers 1989, but he's not an 80s kid. I honestly don't see how someone born in '94 is a late 90s kid b/c you were 5 going 6 in 2000, 7 in '01, 8 in '02, 9 in '03, 10 in '04, 11 in '05, and didn't turn 12 until 2006. Your 13th birthday wasn't until 2007. It's whatever. To each is own.

At least he's off his high horse. I'll give him whatever it is he's wanting. The 90's is a siren of the times. Everybody wants to be there and I wish I never left. The people of That 70's show tried to do a That 80's show and it flopped after two episodes. Now if a That 90's show was created, there's no way to kill it. No joke to corny, no situation too lame. No character to stereotypical. He was born in the 90's and by the time he was old enough to really take it in, it was gone. Replaced with this strange new follow up year called 2000, where sheesh started to get just a tad too technical.
Wait... you were in diapers till seven years old?! I was potty trained as soon as I could walk.

Of course not. Seinfeld is still airing reruns in syndication.
Thought for the day: How many episodes of Seinfeld would last more than five minutes today with the entire plot resolved with a single cell phone call: "Elaine, the restaurant's closed. Jerry just got us reservations at the other restaurant. Kramer, just use Google maps to get yourself there, or just look up where we are right now on Foursquare and tell the cabbie to take you there."
Back in the 90s, not everybody had cell phones, and a (useful) smartphone had yet to be invented.

Whoever started this post is a moron. WHy post anything about the 90s when you still shat your own pants? It seems just as lost as any 90s kid/teen did.....which is okay for the 1990s and its Stamos lovers because it is an identity, contrary to the non generation today. No identity. Suburbanite. Some creek/valley high school, creek/valley ville U.S.A. You probably own a Bieber album...or worse.. Rebecca Black....Enjoy your bubble...it represents you.

I will ask this with all sincerity because I see something amongst all this even if what I am seeing may or may not be correct. Why would you let something insignificant define your life? Do you feel like you don't belong which is why you want society to label you as something?

It is a current fad on the internet among teenagers and people in their early 20s. Most want the label so they can talk down to those younger for not growing up in that 'era.'

Sadly, Jim, that is a sign of immaturity. I had to chat with a bloke my age at work because he tried to force the idea down some younger people's throats that the 1980s were the best. I said to him 'do you realise some of these people you are talking to were babies at the end of the 1980s'?

Yeah it's because it sounds cool for them to say they remember before the new millennium, even if their memory just started in like 1999. I remember back in the mid '00s thinking I was one other younger ones to partially grow up in the '90s, but now you got some kids almost 10 years younger than me saying they grew up in the '90s. I don't really care but it's kinda funny. All power to them I guess. ;D
