Old school will always be the best for me. Safe, fun, yet alternative at the time and the rap in this era, especially early on, still had some funk elements to it.

I never have been a fan.

I like old school rap (1979-1985), classic rap (1986-1991), and gangsta rap (1992-1997).  Anything after that sucks!

I was a preschooler (age 3-4)  and a schoolaged child (age 5-8) during the old school rap era (1979-1985)

I was a preteen (age 9-12) and a teenager (age 13-14) during the classic rap era (1986-1991)

I was a teenager (age 15-17) and a young adult (age 18-20) during the gangsta rap era (1992-1997)

These three phases of rap represented my life.

I like the 1992 to 1997 era because not only is it good, I grew up with it.

As for me being in my 30s, I HATE HATE HATE glam rap.  It reminded me of glam rock of the 70s and 80s.

Still waiting for my favorite rap era. I'm guessing it will be the era when rap finally goes away!!!  ;)  I still don't get how talking to a beat is music!  Music must have a melody IMO.

Though the odd rap song will catch my ear, for me it's not really music as the rap artist is just talking over the beat.  If I want to hear talking, I'll go to some boring lecture lol

Credit for the song should go to the person making the beats, and most often, it's a sample from an older song.

I don't really listen to rap much, but if I had to choose, definitely gangsta rap.

My favorite era would fall in the "glam rap" era(early 00s), centering around 2001, 2002. I really dislike glam rap but the neptunes sound was ubiquitous around that time, in fact, the "neptunes sound" kind of defines the first half of the 00s. The neptunes and timbaland were making very creative beats in the early 00s, making use of eastern instruments, stuttering drums and spacey sound effects, I also like the g funk sound of dr. dre and snoop doggy dogg too('92 to '96). Other than that though, I don't listen to much rap music.

Never heard a 70's music genre comparison to glam rap but I have heard the hair metal comparison(1987-1991) period that compares with the 2003-mid 2008 era of rap.

I usually listen to 80s and 90s rap. However I like rap when i was 10 to about age 14. I liked the G-unit era a little. For my era i liked 2000-2005. After that all the soulja boy crap came out and it was just... not my thing.

I still don't like rap

'90s-2005 is all good, Late '00s sucked mostly. The mid '00s stuff sounds better and better with age to me, idk if it's just me but there was just a huge dropoff after 2005. It is a fact that hip-hop is music, and that's all I'm gonna say about that.  ::)

Around 1998 - 2002 was pretty good. I didn't start listening to rap until 1998, and I don't care much for gangta rap. I like Jay Z, and Eminem, tough, and they both came out around 1998  ;D
