Subject: When Did 90's Nostalgia Start For You?
Written By: Starde on 07/11/10 at 4:10 am
I'm just curious as to when 90's nostalgia personally started for you. I don't think I started to feel nostalgic about the 90's 'til around 2006.

At my age, nostalgia for the 90's has not started yet for I am still feeling nostalgic for 70's

I'm sort of in the "pseudo-nostalgic" phase right now. I'm still big on the 80's, but it's a lot like 1989ish right now in my nostalgic mind, with some increase in '90s interest. It depends, as '90s fashion isn't too terribly different from today, plus political correctness was already well established by then. But I miss things like $1.00/gallon gas prices, when people used proper English and not text speak, when Mariah Carey/Celine Dion was well present on the radio/stores; and most importantly the TV of the era in contrast to the reality/HDTV era of the past decade. I'd say around 2007 was when the first "hints" of missing the '90s appeared, but it's yet to hit the "boiling point" like the '80s did back around 2002.

This last year really. Ive always been big into the late 70s and 80s since thats when I grew up but lately Ive been thinking about some of the cool 90s stuff. I never cared for 95% of the music of the 90s or even the 2000s. The 80s will always have the best music IMO. But there were still lot of 90s stuff I miss. There were a lot of cool shows that I miss now...Zena, Hercules, Deep Space 9, Babylon 5, Batman Animated, Exosquad, Covington Cross, etc. There were also a lot of good movies then to.. Home Alone, Jurassic Park, Saving Private Ryan, Braveheart, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dazed and Confused , etc. i even miss the electronics we had back then. When you bought a home stereo back then you had to have a van or truck to take it home. Now you can fit most 2000s stereos on your passenger seat. A lot of the places we shopped at in the 90s are gone to. This kind of overlaps into the 80s as I remember shopping at them in the 80s mostly but it was in the 90s when they all dissapeared. Woolco, Woodwards, Eatons, Consumers Distributing, Kresge's, Toys and Wheels, a number of music stores and book stores all were taken out by Walmart, Chapters and Toysrus. I always thought I hated the 90s when I was living it but now I think it was mainly the music.

The 2000 election debacle and the 9/11 massacres gave nineties nostalgia a kickstart!

Early-Mid 90's nostalgia started around 2004 or 2005. Right now, I'm starting to get nostalgic for the late 90's. At the time, I thought it was mostly bad. Lately, I'm starting to miss it.

I was born in '88, and i think as early as when I was 12, so 2000, I have liked early '90s music and stuff. I kinda think I was born in the wrong decade...

1978 is a good year to really experience the 90s imo. You'd be around HS when Grunge was huge.

I'm 29 years old, and was born in 1981. I've always looked back at the later part of the 1990's as probably the best years of my life. Everything was awesome, I was just becoming an adult, I had tons of friends, and I still lived with my folks. Life was easy, and pop culture (video games, computers, tv shows, movies, and music) was peaking for me.
That said, I guess I specifically started yearning for my youth around the beginning of 2004, and it's grown into a greater longing every year since. I blame reality TV, social networking sites, and mainstream stupidity for the growing longing of "a better time".

I was born in 1991 and wish I was born in 1981 so i couldve experience the 90s as a teen, which i had to be in the 00s instead

Yeah, the 00's were somewhat of a drag. On the bright side, we got better tech and better video games. The 90's as a teen was truely a blast.

the sad things is that 90s teens are no longer young adults anymore. For example someone who graduated high school in 1999 is 29 now.

Thats the same way I feel accept I was born in 1988. I'd love to say I was nostalgic for them Jan1/2000 but it's hard to say. It's funny because I regret being a kid in the 90's. I wish I was a teenager in the 90's say aroung 16yrs come 1991. What really sets me back is when I find something from the 90's, like in a thrift store or something. Like right now on VH1 100 Greatest Songs of the 90's is on. Sadly all we can do is get our hands on the most stuff we can from the 90's from DVD box sets, 120lb Huffy Mountainbikes, clothes. Most of my 90's love comes from what was on TV and most of the stuff I would love on DVD isn't even slated to ever make some sort of comback. I know used to listen to radio Disney and theres two FM channels I listen to that air 90's music I have gotten depressed dwelling on this sheesh for hours at a time.

That was my graduation year. I still like to think I'm pretty hip for a 29 year-old. I still have the 18 to 25 year old girls' attentions, so I must be doing something right. However, it is sort of a drag when you bring up something like Fraggle Rock, and the girl looks at you like you're from another planet.
I can get into some of today's culture. I love Xbox 360 games, broadband internet, and some of the newer bands. But, some of the newer stuff is just crap: the expanded hip-hop culture, reality shows on every channel, and the need to be "globalized". I just can't get into some of the new crap.
The thing that gets me is just how fast the last 15 years has flown by. And, as I get older, it only seems to speed up even more. I remember being a kid, and a year taking forever to go by, (well, except for summer vacation of course). Now, it's just so fast.

I honestly don't think 90's nostalgia should start until at the earliest 2015. And even better if it doesn't start until 2020. Sorry, personally it's just too early for me. ::)

Its really starting for me now even though i was only a little kid during them. Here in 2010 it amazes me that 1999 was 11 years ago but doesnt seem too far away.

Exactly, I was watching something on VH1 one day (in 2009), and thought to myself, wow things have really changed since the 90s.
