I'm sure this thread has been done before, but as someone who was an avid video gamer through much of the '90s, here's some of my favorites from the decade:
Sonic the Hedgehog 1 & 3 (Sega Genesis)
Mortal Kombat I & II (Arcade)
Street Fighter II (Arcade)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
Super Mario 64 (N64)
Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
Super Mario World (SNES)
What were your favorite video games? In my opinion the '90s were the best decade for video games. Think about it, you had the Sonic series, Mario 3 & 64, fighting games like Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter II, Doom, and role-playing games like Final Fantasy VII.

You might notice almost all of the games on my list are from the early-mid '90s. That's because for some reason around 1997, I just lost interest in video games. In fact, a lot of things changed for me in 1997. In many ways it was the last year of "childhood" for me as I was turning 14. At the beginning of that year, I was still watching Nickelodeon and playing Sega a lot. Then in the middle of the year I suddenly found myself watching MTV and not playing the Sega as much. It's almost like I changed overnight. Anyway, a BIG transitional year for me. That is why there are so few games from the late '90s on my list.
