Subject: Teen Movies For Each Decade (50's - 90's)
Written By: 90steen on 11/07/08 at 4:15 pm
Something I'm going to do when I have free time is watch some teen movies from every decade from the 50's all the way through to the 90's. What are some perfect teen movies you have in mind for each?
I haven't really seen very many for the 50's era.
But when I think of the 50's, I think of James Dean, leather, slicked back hair, cool old-fashioned cars, and cafe's with waitresses on roller blades.
Except maybe American Graffiti, which takes place in '62, it still seems very James Dean and 50's oriented. Any other suggestions someone has?
Now for the 60's. When i think of 60's teens I think of flip hair, french buns, and the start of the hippie generation. I haven't seen one 60's teen movie yet, so any suggestions would be great.
For the 70's I think of pure disco and long hair, and afros.
The only 70's teen movie I've seen was the original Halloween (1978) which was a horror movie, not much of a teen culture, however, it does have 3 very opposite teen girl friends. (A good girl bookworm, a ditzy cheerleader who's on the skankish side, and the sarcastic smart ass edgy girl who likes to flirt with danger)
Any other teen movies of the 70's?
And when I think of the 80's, I think of big hair, leggings, interesting pop music, and mullets.
The only 80's teen movies I've seen are Teen Witch, and The Nightmare on Elm Street franchise which are all very 80's oriented (the 4th movie, in particular) But I'm open for any other suggestions.
Now for the 90's. I think of Colorful clothes, butterfly clips, "as if and whatever", still big hair, but not quite as big, grunge, and rap music with good beats.
90's teen movies I've seen are Clueless, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, the show 90210, and there's others but I'm open to any new suggestion.
Just any movie for each era that is all about teenagers will help. Thank you very much, in advance. :)

I figure he (or she) I wish people would fill out gender in their profile.... anyway he will have to figure out which decades my films are from since I decided to let my brain take over I and I just started brainstroming teen movies.. I have more to come but I'm trying to think of really good ones.

Some suggestions for 80's movies:
Sixteen Candles
Back To The Future Trilogy
Cant Buy Me Love (I know someone else noted it, but its worth mentioning again)
Better Off Dead
My Bodyguard
Footloose
The Breakfast Club
Heathers (again, already mentioned, but worth a second mentioning)
Weird Science
The Explorers
As for 1970's teen flicks...
Id firstly try to find the B-grade drive-in feature 'Corvette Summer'
There are quite a few from the 70's which are pretty good...But at the moment I cant really think of any, except yet another movie that featured Mark Hamill called 'Sarah T.-Portrait of a Teenage Alcoholic'.

Is the thread, movies with teens in the cast or movies made for teen viewers. ???
When Grease came out there wasn't a teenage girl in my neighborhood that didn't own the soundtrack.

Some good ones listed, I'll have to think of some more if I can. One thing I've noticed it seems like the '50s (which technically went up to 1964 when the British Invasion started) and again the 80s and '90s were big on teen movies.
I also think the best teen movies are the ones that still hold up even after the immediate stuff (i.e. fashion, music and other pop culture) becomes dated. Usually that happens when the story is relatable no matter what generation it's from. Ferris Bueller and Back to the Future are like that.
