Subject: Starting a 90s radio show - looking for some show name suggestions
Written By: 90s Boi on 08/17/08 at 10:49 pm
Hello all
Im starting a radio show soon on a specialist 90s station and I wanted to throw some name show ideas out here and see if they stick or if you have any yourself.
Here's what I have so far
"The Vault"
"Retrospective"
Some parts of the show I have in mind include:
A Retro Top 5/10 from a certain 90s year every week
A Classic 90s album in profile (name suggestions?)
Forgotten 90s Pop songs (any names for this part of the show would be great too)
Im trying to avoid the clichéd "TV themes", "movies", "what was your favourite 90s toy" type of ideas as I think they've already been over-done on normal radio let alone specialist :)
All feedback welcome
Thanks

The Vault isnt bad. Not sure if it is taken already.
Shiny Nineties. Kinda gay, drag-esque, but it kinda rhymes.
Digging in the Crates
Maybe you can profile a different type of music for a song or two. There were alot of different music types in the 90s - outside of the american rock, hip hop, grunge, the European music scene was hopping with pop, downtempo, trance, dance, trip hop, etc. I would be careful with this because people may lose interest if you were to dedicate too much time to weird music that they arent used to. However, I think it is a neat idea.

You have quite a task ahead of you. If I had to typify the zeitgeist of the 90's it would be as the beginning of the age of multivalence. the beginning of niche markets and of the catering to those specialized and personal demands. While subcultures have always existed, in the 90's they became more fashionable. but while these forces created individualized genre's they also began to blend them. It became cool not only to uniformly relate to a single genre but also to appreciate concepts across genres. My choice:
The blend.
Hey, the 90's was all about Starbucks anyways.

The Alternative, though that names probably been done hundreds of times
Radio X, the grunge station in GTA San Andreas ;)
I like The Brain's idea of a station called The Blend, that sounds cool and is a double entendre, but maybe Premium Blend is better
There's actually a station here in Rochester called the Buzz, and while it plays rock from the 70's-90's, I always thought the station name was VERY 90's. Maybe you could call it the Lamestain :D

thanks for the replies but just to clarify:
The *station* already has a name with "90's" in the title, there's no changing that - its a 90's station! :)
What Im looking for is name suggestions for my *show* and slots/sections within the show
And yes its tricky, Im normally good at this kind of thing but this has me at a loss for ideas.
