Do 1992ers even love the 90's?  :-\\

What is a 92er?

Someone:
born in 1992
died in 1992
married in 1992
divorced in 1992
resurrected in 1992
graduated in 1992

But why just a 1992er?  What does a 1992er have that say a 1991er doesn't?

Not everybody born in a given year is exactly the same. There are some '92ers that like the '90s, just as i'm sure there are some that don't.

^Yeah, it's probably marginal with them, since I think good memories start developing around 6 or 7 years old (when you start school). To use a comparison point, I'm a 1981er and I've always loved the 80s...but some of my peers ripped on it, especially fashions and some of the more dated music, etc.

Everyone is different though, of course.

That's a good point. My little brother was born in 1991 and he loves the '90s, but he has said before that some people he went to school with actually didn't. A '92er should be able to remember the later part of the '90s really well, so I think they would be alot less likely to hate on the '90s than someone born after 1995 that doesn't really remember them at all.

Plus, the '90s as a decade is not as universally hated as others before it. Like, even though they could remember a huge part of the decade, the people born in the late '70s that liked grunge would rip the '80s all the time, but by comparison, I don't think I've ever met anybody born around me in the late '80s that rips the '90s.

I agree. Although, I did have a bit of an '80s backlash throughout part of the '90s, I did learn to love the era again as I started seeing it was slowly dying out. Then I wanted (and still do) to recapture my childhood, but I'm afraid the '80s are slipping out of favor again. I still love them though. It was part of my childhood, living in the '80s. I think 1992ers will be impartial - some will miss the time, others will care less for it and some just won't care either way.

Yeah, people born in the early part of a decade do tend to be split like that. If you go with the assumption that meaningful memory begins between 5-7 years old, then a '92er would just barely remember the late '90s, but I do think that's enough for them to develop there own firsthand opinion about the decade.

Once you go past that into people born in the middle part of a decade and beyond, I think that's when you get people who are more likely to rip the decade because they sort of feel like it was "before there time".

I was born in 1978. The 80's sucked, big time. Fashion, movies(were good), my childhood was great. But fashion and culture - what was cool back then among teens and young adults - sucked ass.

The 80's - loud obnoxious colors - hats coats, skinny jeans that hug the entire leg and are tight around the ankle for goodness sake - ridiculous big hair, side bangs/ponytails - fun time for everyone on the beach kind of culture/attitude.

The 90's - toned down, earth tone colors,- blacks, browns, olive greens, grays, khaki, dark reds/deep maroons,- very intellectual style/decade - classic styles like from the 20's etc, - that NEVER go out of style. That's why people do not rip on the 90's (almost 10 years later, well into the 00 decade).  Because the 90's style was classic. Classic styles never go out or get corny in the history of time.

The 00's - back to the 80's unfortunately. - loud obnoxious colors, big ugly grandma glasses, pointed-toe flats that run over (that were all the rave from 83-86). white shoes, keds, hideous bape jackets, crocheted gauchos (they were called coolots in the 80's - hated them back then too),

I hate 00's fashion today because I hated 80's fashion. I will be glad when this decade is over and the late-70's kids take control of the fashion industry and bring back the sexy classic styles they ADORE. And the 90's - born kids fall in love with the classic styles of the 90's. Then we can all get back to business. and some good fashion sense. Geez!!!! my eyes are hurting right now I tell you!!! time heals all wounds!!!

Any style that uses alot of color gets corny upon looking back at the decade - the 50's, some of the 70's, and definitely the 80's. The '00's unfortunately are next.

Good observations dude, but sorry I gotta totally disagree with you on the '80s (and you're close in age to me). ;)

I'm a 1981er and I've always loved the '80s to death. Especially the pop music (because it was catchy and just generally fun to listen to), the simplicity of video games and just the basic culture or the way people acted. I had some babysitters who were kinda "Valley Girls" and my mom was youngish for her age, so I got a decent grasp on how people generally acted.

That said, I do get what you mean about alot of the fashions being over the top. That's the one part of the decade that never had an effect on me. I mean a 6 year old can hear music on the radio or get exposed to some of the basic culture, but they're of course not shopping at the mall or going on dates, so that's likely meaningless to them.

I do like the '90s too (both then and now) and one advantage to me personally that it has, was that I can identify more with daily life...which is why I enjoy more television and movies from then. There are alot of good songs too, but something about it was never quite the magic that the '80s and up to 1992/'93 was.

Yeah, I don't really have anything against the fashion or music of the '80s, even though I wasn't born until the later part of the decade. I prefer the culture of the '90s overall, but the over the top '80s fashion styles were cool in there own way.

I have a friend who's a '92er and loves the 90s, although her first memory would have to be from like '96 probably.

I agree.  Being an '89er, I didn't really pay attention to fashion till like '01, when I was about 12.  I didn't really notice the fashion of the '90s until I looked back at some TV shows or movies that were made then.  And yeah, during the '90s I was more focused on the current music/TV, but not so much the fashion.

You don't need to be at least a teen in any era to appreciate what was produced in that time frame.
