What are some of your favorite memories from 1994?
For me, it would be Madonna's "I'll Remember" single & video... I was totally obsessed with that song
It was also a year that I made some great frienships that unforunately did not stand the test of time, but I sure had a lot of fun while they lasted!

Let's see...that was the year of:
The Northridge (Los Angeles) earthquake....which displaced my family and me for 3 months
The baseball strike, which wiped out the postseason and the 1995 spring training :(
My graduation from junior high (aka "middle school", which is more commonly used these days) and when I moved on to high school
The O.J. Simpson chase, which happened the day after my middle-school graduation; I was glued to the TV while it was going on, since just about every station had it televised
The first time I traveled outside of California; my family and I traveled to the Midwest for two weeks.
And a few other things which I have some notable memories of, both good and bad.
Musically speaking, my favourite music acts to listen to were Ace of Base, Jon Secada and All-4-One.
Also, that year is currently the midpoint of my life!

One of my favourite songs from 1994 was 'Another Night' by MC Sar and the Real McCoy
Music highlights of 1994:
- Bruce Springsteen had his only #1 hit single in Canada with 'Streets of Philadelphia'
- Pink Floyd returned to the Canadian Top 40 with 'Keep Talking'
- Steve Perry scored his second #1 hit in Canada with 'You Better Wait'. 10 years earlier, he topped the Canaian chart with 'Oh Sherrie'

Actually, all things considered it wasn't too bad, despite some rough spots. I was living with my mom in an apartment complex (my parents had just temporarily separated but were still on friendly terms - I spent weekends with my dad usually). I made several friends with our neighbors there, and some of their cats, lol. I actually had a decent time at school, it was my last year of elementary and by that point I'd made some friends, but didn't spend as much time with them as I should have.
I was just generally having an okay time as an "old kid" (I was 12 and turning 13), listening to more '80s music and digging the TV shows and movies (especially Jim Carrey and Mrs. Doubtfire).

1994 was very memorable for me. Many things happened that year, pop culturely and on personal levels.
- John Candy, Kurt Cobain were a few of the deaths I remember that year - and well, that other obvious one, too, but we'll get to that later.
- Baseball strike
- And yes, OJ Simpson and the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman.
- The Lion King, Speed, I Love Trouble, Clear and Present Danger, The Shadow, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective were a few of the best movies to come out.
- MTV and Pay-Per-View air WoodStock 1994. I was glued to it...
- We bought a new house in December.
- I started Jr. High in July - it was the first year that they began the "year round" track system, so unfortunatly, I was stuck starting 7th grade in July.
- Something else happened in July, but it's girly related, lol
- I started watching "Friends" in its first season and became a fan.

Power Rangers, "Two Stupid Dogs" , and also got cable
Same Here ;)
Except I would have to replace "Two Stupid Dogs" with any show that was coming on Nickelodeon at that time, since I didn't see it until we got Cartoon Network on cable a couple of years later. I was in the 2nd grade that year, so I don't remember quite as many of the pop cultural things as others. I do remember that we also got cable also that year. It was only about 15 or so channels at first, but when all you had ever been able to watch up to that point was just 3 channels, you weren't about to complain ;D
Other than that, all the time that I didn't spend playing my Super Nintendo or Sega Genesis, I spent over at friends houses(probably pretending to be the Green Power Ranger, lol) or riding around with my parents.

In 1994 the movie Reality Bites came out - what a great time capsule of the early/mid-90s slacker/grunge generation.
My 14 yr old friends and I were obsessed with Pulp Fiction even though we hadn't seen it. When we finally got our hands on a copy we already knew everything about it - but we still loved it!
Forrest Gump, Quiz Show and Four Weddings and Funeral were also big.

Yes, exactly. My 6th grade school year started in Fall of '93 and ended Spring of '94. Most schools at the time (at least in California) were Jr. Highs, I believe. Now most in this area have been converted to Middle Schools, where 6th graders are the lowmen, where as when we were 6th graders in Elementary school, we were the Big Ones on Campus, lol.

When I began junior high in 1992, it was the first year that the school I attended became a "middle school" with grades 6 to 8. So the only group of students who remained there from the first half of '92 through the second half of '92 were the ones going from 7th into 8th grade (i.e., the ones who were a year ahead of me!)...as well as a boy I knew who was being held back in the 7th grade.

You probably lived on the East Coast or something...cuz when I was watching, it was already 7 PM in California. It was local to me...and the chase went on for hours, even after he arrived home. So there was probably no TGIF for us that night.

Are you serious? :) :D Like, oh my god I totally remember that too! You know, in the early-mid '90s one thing I was really interested in was sunrises and sunsets. I knew logically it would never happen, but I used to really want to go to school at night and just thought that would be fun (I'm a geek lol). Well anyway, I ended up being sick that day and I didn't even know the eclipse was gonna happen, but when I later found out I missed it, I was so ticked off at myself! Heck, not only was I not at school, but I missed it altogether.
What made it worse was that I heard the next one wouldn't be for "18 years". Even if I knew 2012 wasn't that far off, in relation to what I'd just missed, it might as well have been a hundred years.

I turned 10 in December of that year. I can recall that eclipse many of you mention because our teachers let us outside with special glasses so we could look at it. That summer one of my best friends ( and one of the only four real friends I had back then) moved form Iowa to New Jersey. I remember my friend Steve and I got tickets to see a "monster truck show" at the University of Northern Iowa's dome stadium. The highlight of my summer was my family's trip to St.L. We went up in the Gateway Arch, attended a Cardinals game and toured Huck Finn cave. As far as pop culture goes I can remember going to see Dumb and Dumber in the cinema and I laughed so hard at the scene where they kill the Owl that I fell out of my seat hyperventilating. I was not too shocked to hear of Mr.Cobain's death but the death of John Candy ( peace be with him ) just made me flip. Oh, I almost forgot! I remember going ice skating with my uncle at Young Arena in Waterloo; where I fell and a kid skated over my thumb, damn near ripping it off.

It ushered in a golden era in hip-hop. You had classics from Nas, Biggie, Wutang etc...

I was beginning preschool ;D
And, although I wasn't even 4 when it happened, I remember Kurt Cobain's death happening, since my father was a pretty big Nirvana fan at the time, and he was pretty disillusioned by the whole event.
'94 was a good year for me, a great year for movies, a mediocre year for video games ('95 would be good, with the PSOne, and '96 - '00 would be the golden age of video games), and a bad year for music (but '95 and '96 would be pretty good).

OK.
Let's nuke that new thread from a couple of weeks ago.
It's clearly a dupe thread. There was a perfectly good thread about 1994, and not a single one of us - not even Darko himself - found it.
